Fun fact. Apparently Lexus was having trouble designing wood that wouldn't eventually warp, so they contacted Yamaha's Piano division (wooden pianos) for help.

It's amazing, how the power delivery is smooth when rolling. Today on my commute, there was a break in traffic and was able to reach highway speeds. I did a pull in 4th gear from 60kmh to 125kmh, and I didn't realize how fast I went, nor did I feel like I was getting pulled into my seat.

I wish I could’ve experienced the smoothness and comfort of the ES350. My 07 ES350 has given me hell, the transmission being the main issue, The AC, and a shaking steering wheel at speeds above 50mph. I’ve replaced tires, axles, shocks, rotors, brake calipers, ect, tons of wheel alignments and balances but the shaking remains. I’m extremely dissatisfied with it compared to my previous 99 GS300 which drove absolutely beautiful. I’ve test driven other 07-09 ES350’s that drove great also. I guess mines was a bad one unfortunately.

When you compare this stunning Lexus with it’s Camry cousin it’s sort of like comparing a decent high school or college player with his cousin who’s an NBA star. Sure you can see some similarities, but the differences are striking. This car the front grill and side lines alone look amazing. Black is definitely the right luxury color for this car. And for a 2009 the headlights look unblemished basically new. I’ve heard waxing them as you wax the rest of your car monthly keeps them protected. Great car and nice effort on your video.

Too bad Lexus PH still doesn't offer the ES300h. In theory the TRAIN Law should now make it more feasible to import. Not even the Camry here is offered in hybrid. The updated 2021 model now has lithium-ion batteries instead of nickel-hydride in the outgoing model, which frees up more space in the trunk.
@KyleLiongCars
@KyleLiongCars 3 жыл бұрын
Personally I would stay away from hybrid vehicles. We've had the North American Camry Hybrid (same XV40 body as this. 2007 model), and when the battery went bad, it was extremely expensive to fix. My friend's Lexus CT200h is currently inoperable too for the same reasons. I think there's a big community advocating Lexus for it's reliability, but there is a general consensus to stay away from Lexuses (and Toyotas) which have hybrid powertrains. Also to add, the hybrid system that Toyota/Lexus employs does not support running on gasoline alone, so once the hybrid system goes bad, unlike some makes, the car just becomes a big expensive paperweight on wheels :(( This reason also explains why hybrid cars from Mercedes and Lexus, for example, on the used market are usually cheaper than their non-hybrid counterparts.
@lawrencebautista1
@lawrencebautista1 3 жыл бұрын
@@KyleLiongCars I see. So the shift to lithium-ion batteries might compromise the purported reliability of Toyota and Lexus hybrids in the long term even more. As it is said that nickel metal-hydride batteries are longer lasting, and this was the reason why Toyota and Lexus still sticked with the older battery for some time until today as they didn't want to compromise reliability. Unlike Hyundai-Kia, which used lithium-ion batteries early on. Or alternatively, while I'm not an electrical or electronics engineer, I think the shift to lithium-ion is driven by supply chain reasons as they are now more readily available. So in theory, they should be easier to replace.
@KyleLiongCars
@KyleLiongCars 3 жыл бұрын
No doubt that since the XV40, the understanding of the science behind hybrid and electric cars have greatly improved, and surely, costs and availability for replacements are not as bad as before, but that still does not detract from the fact that it’s a rather young science compared to internal combustion engines, which means that reliability, and longevity will still be a concern. 90s and even 80s or older Toyotas still run well and are abundantly seen on the road today as by the 80s and 90s, the internal combustion tech was already a few decades old. Electric vehicle technology however has only been around for just over a decade in widespread use. Besides, the electric motor is just another additional part that can go wrong, and will go wrong.

@KyleLiongCars
@KyleLiongCars 3 жыл бұрын
Not too sure about prices there in the US. From what I know it’s way lower there than in the Philippines. $13,000 is roughly what I paid for mine though over here. I expect a car in similar condition to be closer to half the price I paid for, in the US.

Hmmm I can’t particularly say as I’m not too familiar with the prices in the US, but generally, you can always try to haggle down the prices for these if just like the car I reviewed, it doesn’t have the premium package with Sat Nav, and Mark Levinson audio. I don’t think you can haggle down that much based on mileage unless it’s ridiculously high as most of these last over hundreds of thousands of miles. Cheers. I’d take a newer ES over an older GS, unless you really need/desire a RWD platform.

Owner wants to sell a 2010 with 280.000 miles for 5000 is that a good price or two much.
@KyleLiongCars
@KyleLiongCars 3 жыл бұрын
Hmmm I can’t really say as prices are very different here where I live. For reference, a 2009-2010 model here with anywhere between 50-80K Km will cost around 600K - 800K Philippine Pesos. Do note that cars are generally way more expensive here both new and used, easily at least double than that in let’s say the US or Canada. Also, mileage of cars here are very much lower since we have extremely small roads. A car can already be considered “high mileage” for us once it reaches around 90K - 100K Km
