120fps = less light hitting the sensor. Less light = more ISO for exposure. More ISO = Grain. You're test shot was low light, in properly lit environments grain is not an issue.

I totally agree with everything in this video. I bought the Go Pro 4 Silver at REI because it was less expensive. I enjoyed it quite a bit, and thought that I should return it to get the Go Pro 4 Black. As soon as I took it out of the box I realized that it was not at all what I wanted. The screen is essential. I need to see that I am getting the video I think I am getting, and review them ASAP. Also the touch screen that you get on the Go Pro Black when you add the screen backpack is terrible. Using the Go Pro Black with the Screen Backpack eats up battery many many times faster than the Go Pro 4 Silver with the built in screen. Needless to say I took the Go Pro 4 Black back to REI the next day to get my Go Pro Silver back, only to find that it was damaged out, and can not be resold. I was allowed to get the Go Pro Silver new again, but told that I could not return it unless there was a manufacturer's defect. I think that Go Pro needs to be very clear about the big differences in features (screen vs. no screen) on it's cameras and descriptions. These cameras are kept behind glass in the store, and you cannot actually see the camera or know what is different until you take it out of the box at which point it can't be resold. The paper explaining features that was printed out at the store did not state that the Go Pro Black does not have a screen.

I stumbled on this video and after watching it I was sold on a silver. After some research it is better to get the black with the LCD display. It's a much better camera with many more features. And with the display it's easy to navigate just like the silver. I hope this helps someone.

+Jonteee673 anyone can go around spending $500 on that. with a little saving of money, that's possible. I spent about $500 on a hero 4 silver when I got it. it needed a specific micro SD card for it to work also. but again, the Hero 4 Silver is expensive also.

Hey Kyle, I was just wondering if you can buy third party batteries and if they would work with the Hero 4 Silver...do you know. I just want to have like 2 or 3 extra batteries because I spend a lot of time traveling and in a car and on a plane, etc. And I would rather not pay $30 or $40 for one extra battery. Thanks!

Glad I watched this I almost bought the black assuming it was automatically the better camera. Saved myself some money getting the silver instead and I'm very happy with my decision to switch. The features of the silver are much better for what I want to use my GoPro for.

No night time-laps for silver, though. Regarding the grainy video of 120fps I bet that was due to the luck of light. 1/120 exposure is not enough to get the desired amount of light in to this small camera, thus ISO is high and the grain is high as well. Try sunny day next time.

You forgot to mention that the black also has a audio converter that allows you to use many high end microphones making the audio vastly better. I record live music and the black is a way better camera for my needs. I do agree however the silver is more user friendly.

True! I went back to best buy to return the black and got the silver 4 and way better easier and battery is good. With the black my battery dies quicker because I needed to use the go pro app to see what I was shooting and review my footage. Also the black battery does over heat real quick gets really hot i don't know if it can affect the camera for being that hot. Over all I tried both and silver is better

Thanks for another great video!! Your wisdom with these camera's helped me decide on the 4 silver. I could not agree with you more. Most the the footage I do is with my 4 silver. I do however have a 3+ silver just to get a different angle in recording. Easy to use and awesome video. Btw, with are you thoughts on the 2.7k at 30fps? I haven't used that setting yet. I really only use the 1080p-60 or 1080p-60 Superview for what I record. BTW, I subscribed to your channel, take care.

Tim bright it is. but usable footage even on cinema is only 24fps. more fps should be for you to work around with. it doesnt make a difference whether it's 24p or 60p or 240p if you're still gonna play it on tv. that's why the black is for professional or content creator. if u're just gonna leave it in hard drive for memories, take pictures on your travel, frame everything yourself, then just get the silver. if you're using it on drones, dolly, and strictly action cam, and as a content creator, then black is a better choice. i'm backpacking cross continent, so silver is obviously my choice.

Also, with the Hero 4 Black, you could just use the GoPro app on your phone or tablet and also have the same features as the Silver or LCD BacPac. It connects to the camera via WiFi/Bluetooth and gives the same controls + preview.

Fortunately, the kit I got came with two extras and when I'm out I hardly break into the second battery. Admittedly, I've only run 1080p rather than 4k. I'm gearing up for 4k soon. However, side by side comparisons of low light footage still makes me quite jealous. I love shooting in low light and the Silver takes the cake. Haha! Why couldn't they just mix the two? *sigh*

I have the Hero 4 Silver and it is really great. However I am having a problem with one thing. After one minute the LCD screen turns down the brightness.. I almost can't see what's on the screen. The whole point of me choosing the silver was the LCD monitor. I shoot videos where I need to see the screen clearly 100% of the time. I have the LCD touch display set to Sleep: "Never". It's also set to Brightness: High (which is where I need it) What can I do to fix this? Thanks very much

Hi!, I make films, based on what you say I would go for a DSLR for makings movies, specifically the Canon EOS 70D, is great for filming and can handle up to an hour filming without cuts, I would not recommend you GoPro for movies because it doesn't have that much features as a normal camera like zoom but if you still want to go for Hero4 Silver. I have both, Hero4 silver and black and I would recommend silver over black totally, plus Silver it's cheaper. Cheers!
