I've recently started the JADAM method and am loving it. Great to see you guys are into it too. I found the book somewhat difficult to get thru so I'm thankful for your videos.

Old American in Thailand. Like your videos. Aphids appeared overnight on my exotic variegated plants. I mixed 1 tablespoon each baking soda, canola oil and dish soap into 1 ltr. of tap water in my sprayer. Misted my plants and the aphids were gone by afternoon. I'll try JADAM solution on some cannabis. One of my sons is indoor farming cannabis in the Bangkok area.

I don't do anything to the pests. HOWEVER, it's a new garden space, so I want the beneficial insects to find plenty of pests and make a home before I start spraying. Probably will start spraying next year. Organic pesticides tend to kill more beneficials than their synthetic counterparts. But they are still less toxic. Great videos, love your content. Keep it up. 😊

We have a small 18x18 garden with raised beds, containers and grow bags and haven't noticed any bugs yet. We have tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, cucumbers, strawberries, onions, lettuces, beets and sweet potatoes. Kale, carrots and radishes did not do well. We use marigolds and herbs (didn't get many herbs planted) for insect deterrents. The onions here and there seem to help as well. Although the method you showed looks interesting, we would not be up to doing that. Always good to see what safer ways they are coming up with to help protect our gardens and hard work. Thank you!

As a chemist, you definitely want to wear eye protection while doing this. I’d encourage you to redo this video with goggles on for safety since many people will following exactly what you guys are doing! We love your videos and watch them often!

@@TheProvidentPrepper Yes, definitely! Safety glasses are good, but I would encourage anyone trying this at home to wear goggles. Accidents happen especially with this large of an amount and inexperience working with these chemicals. The order of ingredients definitely matters in this reaction, and if it’s not followed correctly it has the potential of splashing back into someone’s face. It looks like a great great bug killer and I plan on making some. I don’t want to scare anyone away from making it. Just be careful everyone and wear goggles, gloves, and definitely do this outside when making large amounts.

I got this from the JADAM site "Azomite is the best substitute for phyllite powder but I don't recommend to use it when you make JS because Azomite is too light so it will not sink."

I would like to know how you washed out the cooking/measuring containers. Where did you rinse out the residue? Was their a lingering smell to the cooking/measuring items after washing?

So far the good bugs and birds seem to be keeping the more unwelcome bugs at bay. So I've done nothing this year. I saw more lady birds and their babies this year, and I didn't quite have so many black fly on my broadbeans (fava). Although my broadbeans finished earlier this year. I do have a lot of woodlice, but they don't seem to be doing much harm. Not many slugs so far this year, but it has been very dry. UK based

Great video! The only thing that worries me is the order in which the water was added into the dry mixture that contained lye (Sodium hydroxide). In soapmaking (for example) for safety reasons the lye is always added to the water, not the other way around. The saying I was taught as a mnemonic device to remember that order was "it snows on the lake, it never lakes on the snow." I wonder if you could add the water to the other mixed dry ingredients in the pot, then add the Sodium hydroxide, and then stir it all up?

The goal in adding water to lye or lye to water is the speed. You want to add one to the other.. quickly, so the ratio is not off for that long -- prevent boiling over, or any pressure that can pop the solution, get on your skin.

Jolly Johnny was a chemist, jolly Johnny is more, what Johnny thought was H2O was H2SO4. Lol. Seriously cool stuff, if you've been to the garden store and looked at the price of pesticides lately you can appreciate the value here. I question putting it in glass jars and John and KYLENE(!) really need a NIOSH vapor mast instead of that particulate mask he's wearing.

Glass is fine, or HDPE 2 or 3. OSHA: The legal airborne permissible exposure limit (PEL) is 2 mg/m3 averaged over an 8-hour workshift. This is not too bad! Outside is best.
