Watch how Master Bladesmith, Kyle Royer turns knifemaking into an art form in the final assembly of a massive damascus frame handle bowie he calls FORTITUDE. Will this be one of his favorite pieces of all time? First, see Kyle struggle through the final questions he’s had to overcome with Fortitude. Kyle is extremely nervous about warping the fittings during heat treating. Once he pushes past that point, it’s smooth sailing from there until he has to sharpen the massive double-edged blade. Little did he know, the coffee etch and bluing will come with their own challenges. Overcoming these challenges was one of the most rewarding parts of this build and Kyle’s painstaking pursuit of excellence shines through during the entire knife making journey in building Fortitude.

About Me
My name is Kyle Royer. I’ve been making knives for over 16 years. I discovered if you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together. So I got with my family and started a business about 3 years ago dedicated to teaching people the beautiful art of knives.

This is the exact kind of thing they done on The Witcher. Regards.

They can't afford his creations, this knife alone will sell for tens of thousands of dollars. A sword he made recently sold for $40,000. Kyle takes MUCH longer to make a weapon than most other smiths do, months and months of daily work to finish just 1 item. In movies, dozens of blades need to be made in the time it takes Kyle to make 1. They use props and CGI in movies because most of the time you see weapons from 2 to 10 meters away. Battle ready blades for action scenes also have a limited but functional appearance.

@@YukiTsunoda7 One of his previous swords from last year I think. His clients are anonymous but the price paid for it was known of and discussed in the comments section. I really like Kyles work but he takes an enormous amount of time to make them. He's lucky he finds clients willing to pay big sums for his work, or he'd have to speed his process up to make more and sell them at lower prices...like pretty much all other bladesmiths do.

The gold is soft, much softer than other metals, so if you create a ledge in the steel, like a hook, the gold squishes into those gaps in the groove and that ledge at the top, keeps the squished gold wire from "spilling" out, sand it flat and you get a beautiful inlay, that looks flush with the surface. Kyle explains this in quite a few of his videos, this process is called damascening. Its an explanation of how this works, its what Kyle's dad has detailed above.

I cannot deny the absolute craftsmanship that goes into Kyles work but I just so wish he could say Jim Bowie’s surname properly. It makes is so I can’t watch him do his work. It’s crept in all across KZbin, I don’t know who started it but shame on them.

Seeing that Kyle shaves his legs with this knife just forces me to say what if it leaves razor burns on the skin.. So you must pick a spot with softest skin on ur whole body... I vote to see the hair shaved of someone's bum lol wouldn't that make the video go viral🤣🤣🤣 all silly jokes aside tho the knife is gorgeous hands down

In my wildest dreams I could not imagine that something like this is possible. That you can forge steel together and know how much to press it to get such a perfect pattern! Incredible. Absolutely perfect job wow !

Wow! Apart from your swords this is by far my favourite knife. I wasn't a big fan of the dark blueing before watching your stuff but now I like it!

if you want something even more beautiful than those pearl pieces and quadruple the value of the finished knife check out black opal or crystal opal... nice work!

Beautiful ! Incredible ! maybe overkill... I bet nobody would ever use it. I do not like the bowie form by any means, but this is one of the nicest damascus pattern for sure.

One day I would like to own several of your pieces. They look amazing and imagine they would perform if someone was brave enough to "use" one

what would something like this cost? are you capable of making a folding version of this with a flip assist? this would be an heir loom that could be passed down through the ages, and I'm absolutely in love with it

I cant seem to close my mouth after seeing the completed masterpiece. If this was in 4K, i think that pattern would get etched in my eyes.

I don't think the "watch to the end" notice is necessary. I usually watch videos to the outro and YT is telling me i jumped of half way through. I just think their analytics are broken which is why you see so many people who did not watch to the end.

Kyle, that last statement you put in about finish things that are spectacular even though sometimes you don’t get paid for it really hit home. There is, and can be, a lack of understand or appreciation for how much effort goes into producing these blades. And it just means a lot to hear that even at the top of the game you guys feel that too sometimes.

This is just on a different level. He made stunning knives before, and you thought: Yep, that is the top, and he can't raise the bar even further. No compromise, human perfection at it's finest.
