KYLES CABIN: The Shack Collapsed! Finally!

Those who have been watching for awhile know that I have been talking about tearing down the old existing cabin "the shack" ever since I got here. Well, mother nature took care of that for me. It is nice actually having a view looking out the east window! It opened it up a lot around here. I want to start posting videos more often but it's really hard because the service is spotty out here. It takes about 4 hours to upload a 10 minute video, and sometimes it doesn't work. When it warms up this spring/summer I will post much more and make longer videos since I will be going to town for work so I can use wifi somewhere. Oh to have a young bulletproof back once again. Alas, the tear makes the wear! What many don’t realize is when you are young the discs are like new erasers, soft, strong and playable. As you get old they harden, even crumble and then they slip one way or the other and you’re then sleeping on the floor. Such is life. Use it well Kyle!

Agree your place looks better without the old building. Yet, that old building was a treasure -- dry storage! A treasure until you had the time to build a proper woodshed according to your ideas. A treasure to store "stuff" until you have a proper home for it. With my years, I have lots of 20-20 hindsight. Things I wish I had done and things I wish I hadn't done. More of the latter than the first. Hope losing that old building doesn't become the same for you over the next year or so. Sometime a dry shelter is worth its weight in gold, regardless of how worn its outward appearance. Just 2-cents, this afternoon.

Thanks for stopping by! I'm going to pound a well this spring when the ground thaws and install a deep well pitched pump, that way I can use it in the winter as well. Cierra does know how to shoot a gun yes. Hopefully we never have to use it but we do keep it handy in case of emergency. We want to feed birds this summer so I'm sure we will have a visitor or 2 at some point.

When I was testing it out it was above zero. We just had a stretch of below zero days (it was -30 last night) and it has a hard time heating the bathroom addition. Once I get a fan out here that will help a lot and I'll put it back in. Cierra got back and I try my best to make her as comfortable as possible so with the colder temps I put the bigger one in for now until i get a fan.

What do you do for a water supply when the snow thaws? Curious. I just started watching recently.

I'm going to pound a well this spring when the ground thaws. I hauled water last summer and I will not be doing that again haha. I could collect rain water but if i pound a well and install a deep well pitched pump I can use the well in the winter too and dont have to melt snow anymore. Which will also be nice.

I haven't had a problem with bears yet! Which is surprising considering the food and cooking we do inside the cabin. I'm always outside working and making noise so I think that keeps them away. They are more afraid of us then we are of them.
