The Commonwealth games are like the Olympics but only countries that used to be part of the British Empire take part, there are just over 50 odd nations who compete. The people in front of the stage were some of the athletes. Kylie performed because the next games 4 years after Glasgow (pronunced Glasgo) were in Brisbane Australia

The ones dancing were the "game makers" the volunteers that helped support the games. The audience around the stage are the professionals athletes. Kylie was just one of the performances that evening
