KYMCO MXU-450i Overview

READ THIS: I bought a Kymco MXU300 about 12 years ago and it was just a weekend ATV when my family went camping.....but then we bought a 10-acre farm and put it to work. I've always been a Honda guy but I have to say, this thing is a BEAST! I've put hundreds of hours of use and abuse and NOTHING breaksdown! It starts every time reliably, runs great, has an awesome suspension. I put a large took box on the front rack and use this thing for everything! For my daughters birthday I attached an 18-foot trailer and loaded it with kids, I had to put the ATV in low gear and take my time but the ATV pulled the loaded trailer about a 1/2-mile away to another farm, we're talking about upwards of 2,000 pounds! Let me tell you something else, Kawasaki takes these Kymco's and changes the fender plastic and sells them as Kawasaki's! Part for part absolutely identical. It has hydraulic brakes, full instrumentation, braided lines and everything is top quality. I honestly don't believe the Honda is a bit better but the Honda will cost you $2,000 more! I'm now looking to buy another ATV and I looking for a Kymco! My daughter also has a Kymco 90 and it too has been bulletproof awesome! Compared to the Honda it's a better quad! Why? Honda has no reverse, no back-up pull start, no cooling other than fins and no automatic chokes....the Kymco has reverse, forced-air cooling, pull-start back-up and the auto choke means the kids aren't driving around with the choke on. The Honda is semi--automatic so if a kid doesn't downshift on a steep hill it could spell disaster....but the Kymco with CVT is always in the right gear....plus the Kymco has a headlight, tail light and brake light. Sorry, Kymco WINS hands down!

I have had mine for a couple of months now just had its First service and so far no complaints .

It's a steal for a full utility ATV I have a mongoose 270 have had only one issue with the carburetor ventilation hose come lose easy fix but after a year that's all sips gas too spent 4 hours on desert trails still 3/4 full just do the maintenance and shell run great

I have a 2018 450i and not a fan of the battery location behind rear tire. You mentioned in your video about putting in a battery tender connection. How do you go aboit doing that.

I bought a 2018 MXU 450i new, love mine. My only complaint is finding parts…that can be bear.

Kimco has a pretty design and looks good in quality. I want to buy it, but it's too expensive in Korea.

Excellent video very informative great thing you explain about bit history about Kymco since not that many folks know the role it seems pretty good deal instead buying something over kill price when you need just for basic stuff. Looks forward for more tips and comparisons. If buy one do you ship them and if yes how much shipping to NJ ?

I have a kymco 450 I that won't start ran great last time out it tried to start yesterday ran a few seconds then shuts off today I put a new plug in and it's not getting any fire at all any ideas what might be the problem

When’s the last time you checked the valve clearances? Air filter is good? You sure it has no spark at the plug? If no spark then check stator output.

If this unit has EFI, why does it have a petcock?

Sometimes manufacturers still do that. It’s probably just a carryover from the carb model to save manufacturing cost and making new fuel lines fuel tank etc.

We bought one brand new took it home would not shift. Took it back to the dealer he said it was just a loose linkage said he fixed it. We brought it back home took it up to our cabin could not get the thing to shift would not go into reverse, Would not go into neutral, the gears were all messed up reverse wasn’t where the R was, neutral wasn’t wear the N was the shifter was super floppy and loose, had to push it into the garage. Brand new! They are junk do not buy. Now we are trying to return it and get our money back and put it towards a Honda or a namebrand vehicle that actually works. Do not buy! Chinese knock off garbage!

Don’t worry this is solvable and there is an official recall for this now. Contact your dealer or KYMCO direct. They just announced it. Even the best manufacturers have recalls and manufacturing inconsistencies here and there. Get it fixed with the recall and you’ll be good.
