There are still some Kyokushin senseis who insist their students to fight the way these guys do. Usually, it's the old guys who are reluctant to make changes in the way they fight. Also, to them, the Japanese are the best and they are unbeatable - ever! *sighs*

Pure delusional on the last part . Way too much hero worship. Agree on the 1st part. It closely resembles a real life street altercation.

Saiko Shihan Shigeru Oyama (now Soshu of World Oyama Karate), Yasuhiko Oyama, his kid bro and at the time IKO's chief instructor in Alabama, and Miyuki Miura, also IKO's chief insructor in Chicago back in those days. Miura currently runs an independent Miura Dojo.

@intromix Sosai Masutatsu Oyama made an announcement that he was going to commit suicide if a Japanese man didn't win the tournament so Willie wasn't being arrogant he was simply pissed off that he could have kicked his ass but didn't want to be responsible and run the risk of Sosai doing that if he won.

A horrible feeling for Willie Williams. Not being allowed to win. This makes me so incredibly angry and sad.

Darn, now you wanna go and show you're tough, enter in a Kyokushin Karate world tournament. Jesus I'd be crapping my pants if I was the guy from the first video just being 5'7 against a guy who's probably 6'10.
Grand masters Miyuki Miwura (IL), and Shigeru (NY) & Yasuhiko (AL) Oyama brothers.

I was under the impression he was being sort of arrogant, almost as there was personal conflict between the two fighters? I should ask my Sensei, he was there and might remember

The Japanese were notorious for being unfair and biased during these early tournaments. Claims have been made, saying that Willie Williams was unfairly treated. He was pissed over something during the tournament.

personally i find although the darker man was very, very inexcusable for his actions, doesn't it realte to what the other man was doing too? watching the films before i noticed he was doing the same thing - pushing, grabbing, showing his back to the fighter and so on. theyre playing a game of 'who's bigger.'

I still cannot beleive the final between willie williams vs makoto nakamura did not happen. Even though a non japenese fighter could not win then.

Yeah, there are LOTS of politics in most styles, THIS ONE IS NO EXCEPTION,, they want any symbols or letters taped off on your gi, and wont allow a black gi (nowadays)

i entered a karate tournament using Shaolin qwan fa and although i won a few rounds it didn't feel a positive vibe from the crowd watching apparently karate meant the Japanese way not martial arts in general. god was i out of place. XP
Totally embarrassing tall guy lost his mind started showboating would not stop fighting when referee asked him to Oyama should have kicked him out the tournament he has stained the floor with his poor childish ways #.Begs the question why did his own instructor not step up and punish him?Avoid this guy yes he needs to cool down big time what a chump.Every time the tall guy arrogantly turned HIS BACK would warrant a public canning ,total NOBODY.
@intromix6 жыл бұрын
Richard Allan yeah he was being out of order,, Willie Williams aka Sensei Akhbar was aoparantly trying to prove a point that because he's not Japanese, he most likely would not win the tournament. And was taunting the Japanese fighter showing him that not only is he not afraid of him, but that the Japanese fighter would NOT knock him down or out,, I think Williams got to a point where he was fed up with the politics and was just to the point where he wanted to "prove a point" had he follow the rules of the tournament and kept fighting, chances are he most likely would have won against the smaller guy
@squatch5703 жыл бұрын
@Daniel O Because the deck was stacked against them being a non-Japanese he wouldn't have been "allowed" to win. He could have won the tournament but he was instructed to lose specifically so that a Japanese could be the winner. He was furious about that and defiant of the order to lose so he antagonized Sanpei (the Japanese he was fighting) to force a disqualification rather than to pretend to lose to Sanpei. It was very, very political at that time. I know this 100% accurate firsthand knowledge because I was trained by Soshu Shigeru Oyama directly in NYC and I started in 1982 when I was 12 years old. I knew Willie Williams (Shihan Akbar) to a certain degree too, although he was way ahead of me in rank and status.
@squatch5703 жыл бұрын
@Daniel O You are most welcome. It was a very unfortunate situation and there's more behind the scenes but it was 40+ years ago and time to let that go. Take care, Osu!
the black guy (and i am sorry for this becuase he is abrother to me) was in defense and not scoring points. He has to at least throw for 3 points. He was not mobile enough. Perhaps he waited a bit to long and I think the decision was prematue but we do not see the clock in the video. But yes it is political to certain extent. Mark

The biggest fix ever. They didn’t want Willie to fight the Japanese champion so they disqualified him. It’s too bad because that would have been an awesome matchup. Japanese thing I suppose; can’t take the chance of losing to a black American and losing face.
