I took the Kyosho Turbo Optima out for its first drive. There were some interference issues and it cut the first run short, but I was able to get it out the next day and have some real fun with it. It drives great and it is super quick. It was hard to hold back the throttle finger on the track, so I slid into the pipes a few times!
It came back in one piece, and it is all cleaned up and looking good again!

Thanks Michael! It was a joy to build and a ton of fun to drive. So much so I kind of forgot to drive it responsibly and get around the track better! I just ended up having fun sliding it around and sending up the big rooster tails of dust! LOL! I guess that means I was having a great time as it wasn't until I watched the video while editing to see I was just going nuts with it! LOL!

Thank you! I wish I had made a slightly bigger track as I was not able to fully open it up or I would slide into the corner too fast! I drives really nice and really scoots around out there. It is amazing how well it does with how old the design is but i guess when you get it right, you get it right and Kyosho nailed it with this one! Glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks Peter! It is a great looking and great running buggy. The only thing I have found I don't like about it is you just don want to scratch it up! It is so pretty with all the gold it is kind of hard to want to run it. As you can tell I got over that pretty quickly and was over jumping it and smacking into the pipes pretty quickly!! I had planned on taking it easy on it and driving like I had some sense but that flew right out the window once my inner 12 year old saw those big clouds of dust getting kicked up!!! The whole section of woods behind the track was just a haze of dust once I was done! It turned out looking great and running just as well. My only complaint is it is too pretty and I still don't want it all scratched up!!! thankfully only some very minor scuff from the run. It is all cleaned up and bock on display but I am sure the next outing I will be equally as aggressive with it! LOL!

The car looks great and has a lot of power. Once I heard a pro driver speaking to a group of kids. He told them that one the keys to driving is throttle control. Since you were shooting video of both cars, it's my impression that the Pegasus was slower. When you went to the Turbo Optima it had more power and you pulled the trigger on certain spots it got tail happy. You had some great laps with more throttle control. When you get that car dialed in you will really have even more fun. It looked great coming off the jump.
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground Жыл бұрын
100% it was me having too much fun seeing it sliding around and sending up the big rooster tails of dust and I completely stopped focusing on driving it well! It was a ton faster than the Pegasus! I ran like it was on velcro out in the grass! Some more focus on my part and watering down the track and it would turn in some much faster laps!

Great running video Addam, she looks sweet out there kicking up the dust..... and then there's that awesome and very familiar optima sound! 👌 Cheers for taking one for the team, as I don't envy you on that post run clean up..... took me hours on mine and that was only driven on clean dry tarmac! Do hope you got away without any damage to the shock caps/shock towers and bodyshell after that little tumble or two. You done well controlling her on such a tight and dusty track matey. Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it, I had a ton of fun out there with it. I went a little harder than I planned on but I kind of got lost in sliding it around and with how punchy and fast it was to care too much about wrecking it! I came away with only a few minor scuffs so all is good! It didn't take too long to clean it up, thankfully most blew off with the compressor and the rest was pretty easy to wipe down, much easier than cleaning up a muddy one for sure! I love the looks of it and by all means , paint yours this way! I recommend it, it looks great!! Take care my friend and have a great rest of your week!

One of these days you will get one! They are so much different to build than the Tamiya kit are. This one went together like a Swiss clock and drives great. All the others go together well too (the ones I have built at least) but this is the best driving of the ones I have. Probably because it is the first 4wd from Kyosho I have gotten. I tend to keep myself up at night thinking about builds, troubleshooting problems, planning out custom builds that I may or may not ever do and trying to solve complex problems like where I put something! LOL!!! I hope and yours are doing well and have a great rest of you week my friend!

Yeah they really do!!! I was really surprised it did not flip the few times I slide in and stopped so fast in front of the camera! that thing rips mate, has that classic old school look too ) I think that with all the modern tech we sometimes forget about simple things like leaving other bound cars switched on and look for more complex answers. Did you guys ever get the Marui Ninjas over there? They always looked awesome but are really pricey now.

Yeah it runs as good as it looks! I was having such a great time out slinging the dirt and dust around I kind of forgot to take it easy and try to drive like I had some sense! LOL! Kyosho nailed it with this one, but I have heard from a few that the Optima mid is a better running one. I will have to find out eventually! Marui never did much here in the states expect in a few areas, southern California, Florida and North East states were probably the 3 main areas back in the day where I would see articles with them. Where I was they only lived in magazines! I do love the look of the Ninja and the Shogun! They are pretty pricey nowadays even for the haggard and beat ones!

I bought one knock off futaba (4pm) receiver.. it worked fine when installed.. in the meantime I bought several more.. time ticks on and i go to use the car with the first one it became glitchy and stupid.. so it got binned... The other ones so far are okay. Were tested on arrival... One is in a car.. its glitchy. But then i used a cheap brushless combo.. so it could be the culprit to.. ive gone back to the futaba R203gf (cheapest ones ) going to use the knock offs in slow cars that dont need highest quality..
@AddamsPlayground

So far I have good luck with these receivers and have them in at least 40-50 cars and I think this is the first glitch from it. It ran perfectly on the second out and think it was just confusing the radio with two cars linked to it at the same time. I have so many cars ready to run I need to go with the cheaper ones to save some money... kind of a dumb thing to say when I am talking about have 100+ kits in the collection all able to to go out and run anytime! LOL! Thanks for the insight and thanks as always for watching!

Nice, could use a bit more rear end maybe, looking at how it slides and over-rotates in corners
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground 3 ай бұрын
Yeah, I am sure some tuning would help. My driving style is more for my amusement than actually driving fast, I tend to really sling it around the corners as I like seeing it kick up the dirt and dust! I can sometimes tame myself for a few laps but it usually turns into coming in too fast, slam on the brakes and then hammer the throttle around the corner... not graceful but fun! LOL!!

Awesome run, Addam! Good catch on the radio issue. Is that a Dumborc transmitter you're using?
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground Жыл бұрын
Yeah, those laying in bed thoughts are usually the clearest ones I have! Mostly because I am not distracted by everything else going on and I am only focusing on the one thing at the time! I use the Spektrum transmitters and have for years. I got my first one probably 10 years ago once I had 8 or 10 cars all with a different radio and I got tired of playing 'swap the batteries' every time I wanted to drive one as I hate leaving them in the radios as they get forgotten about and can leak and ruin things! I have stuck with them mainly because I can get the knock off receivers for around $13-14 a piece and they will bind to any of the 3 radios I run. I have them all bound in the radios now but occasionally I will need to move one or some thing. I have heard decent things about the Dumbo radios and the Radio link ones too. It is hard to leave when I have so much invested into the Spektrum side now!

Great running video Addam. I like the dust clouds hanging in the air over the track. Had you unplugged the battery of the Pegasus? If not your guessing's right.
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground Жыл бұрын
Yeah there was quite a fog of dust hanging in the air out there! I was having a blast whipping it around the corners and sending up the little clouds of dust! So much so that I kind of forgot to try and drive it cleanly and was just nailing the throttle and having a good time! I had not unplugged the Pegasus until I got back inside. I think just having the two cars on at the same time confused my poor radio and caused the glitching. It ran perfectly before I turned on the Pegasus and the next day when it was by itself. So just need to make sure things are turned off on one before running another!

Oh, man, that is such a cool buggy! I told myself I would never again build a Kyosho Legendary, but I am starting to fall for this one... I think you will crush the 10 second barrier with this one, once you get the right conditions on the track! Other topic, I hope you don't mind me asking, is there a drain pipe in the cellar where you sit? Reason I ask is I have same thing, I have one right over me and I have become completely paranoid about it, ha ha!
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground Жыл бұрын
It is a wonderful buggy, it was joy to build and even more so driving it! It will easily get into the 10s if I go out and water down the track! A little more grip in the in corners and would be much more predictable and quick! Yes the plumbing is all right above me and with 3 other people in the house there is probably going to be random running water noises. Is is kind of white noise to me but that afternoon I think my wife was in the shower and the dishwasher was running so it was a constant trickle of water and other stuff going down the drain! Not a whole lot I can do but try and plan a little better around when I record down there. LOL!

Great Video! This performance on the Orion 19t brushed motor?
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground Жыл бұрын
Thank you! The motor worked perfectly for this and there is tons of power and speed! I was never able to get up to full speed on the track. It worked very well and was not hot when I got done out there. It was very warm but I think that was most due to me running it in the grass for the last few minutes. The taller thick grass out but the track really bogs down the lower buggies. I am really happy with the motor!

They are super cool buggies and a joy to build and drive. I have a 19t Element motor with a 1060ESC running on NIMH power. I could run it on lipo but I use the nimh packs most of the time as they are always laying around and modern ones work much better than the old ones. I use inexpensive ZEE brand batteries, both nimh and lipo in almost all my cars. Ha vefin building and running yours

Cool video! Is it possible to upgrade these to a brushless 3s?
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Brushless is fine, 3s brushless is probably going to be a bit too much. On a good 2s system it will be more than fast enough for any type of track driving, if not too much to keep traction. 3s is both going to be hard to fit a decent battery in as it have to go between the frame rails and the upper deck and the added torque is probably going to shred the belt or the pulley. They are quality but not ever designed to take that much. If you want 3s romping probably stick with Arrma or something designed to take that abuse with a stronger driveline between the motor and the diffs.
