Always good to see your face. Been watching you since a month before I arrived in Japan back in 2015. Your JFAQs were a great help to me getting settled in. You're right about the job market here. I'm a programmer and the pay is awful, the holidays are few and far between and the perks are non-existent unless you count the free booze with co-workers every once in awhile.

Nah she’s fine. Unemployment and dole services in Japan are all pretty great plus it’s only 4% unemployment. Not too brutally hard to find a simple job

Kyoto Animation or 'KyoAni' made one of my favourite anime films, based on the manga 'Koe no Katachi'- 'The Shape of a Voice' - the title in English when the film was released was 'A Silent Voice',

japanese public transportation is so solid that i would think that uber would be mainly necessary in the small urban areas. but then its a cost between that or just a regular taxi. would be interesting to see it play out. is AirBnB still restricted in japan? thats something i would love to see flourish as opposed to hotels. looking forward to your next vid! im currently studying japanese in college and independently so hearing your take on the job market there would be insightful.

Hey. Here is a subject that you could do. I make my own videos and in the research that I have done for some videos it seams that Japan historically has been a power house and a bit of a bully to places like China and Korea. Maybe a video how that came to be or why that was would be interesting. Just a thought. Oh by they way can you please put a link to your clothing line in your description? I tried to find it and couldn't find it.

The Taxi Uber thing and similar things are forbidden by law in the Netherlands as they are not certified taxi drivers. I however do think it would be handy to counter the insane taxi prices in the Netherlands. But that's a completely different story. Also the taxi companies and their drivers made a big stink about it in the Netherlands as well, which is another big reason why it isn't allowed. For topics to cover, what about Russia never signing a peace treaty with Japan after WW2? Technically it never stopped in that perspective, it just turned into a cold war. This in combination with the well known issue regarding the Kuril islands being occupied by Russia and Russia wanting to have Hokkaido as well before even thinking of signing anything.

taxi services made a stink here too in the US but it looks like each had their own share of the market. i know when i lost my phone i had to call a taxi so it's not like they went extinct. either way, it's expensive if you have to rely on them for any sort of travel.

I'm curious on your opinions of ガッツch. He's an ex Yakuza who goes to bust creeps at trains. Many people on Japanese Twitter do not like him for his methods being too violent. His KZbin channel was taken down but now uploads to niconico returning to his online activity after getting out of jail on bail. I do find his content interesting because I only ever see people busting individuals online on the English side of KZbin.

I really feel sorry for the lady you had to let go. It sounds like she may have had a learning disability or grew up without a computer because her family may have been really poor. My wife is a school teacher. During Covid she discovered some kids didn’t even have internet at home because their family couldn’t afford it.

Hmm well she came from a pretty well to do family but may not have had a pc in her youth buuuttt….she had been working with public school system for 25 years and japans school system has been using pcs since about 1983 so…..I mean I guess she coulda still had an undiagnosed learning disability. I’m really not qualified to make a judgement on that.

My grandpa, who was a WW2 vet, learned to use a computer on his own in like the late 2000s, no problem. Pretty sure he didn't grow up with one.

Do you think manga authors and artists see AI as a tool to empower their work and make it easier or as new competition? I'm not sure how one would gauge creativity in Japan, but have you noticed less originality from drawn stories and overall media in Japan from the time you moved there to now?

One thing I'm curious about. I know Japan has a high conviction rate and a zero tolerance policy as far as drugs go how is it fairing with the whole international fentanyl epidemic. It's bad even in the rural areas around here. We never had homeless and hard drugs were far and few, but now we have people wandering the streets in a psychosis, kids over dosing and a growing population of once functioning citizens that have been reduced to collecting cans

Question: Does Japan have a deforestation problem and if so how does that effect its culture and climate? Is it transitioning entirely to a culture that is digital so it doesn't effect anything or does it still require its forests to feel authentic? Something random if you need questions to answer.

I'd like a deeper dive on where you see Japan in say 2050 and beyond, your reasons for making the contingency move. We all know the stats on births etc, can make extrapolations, the country on paper simply doesn't make sense by then. You either need higher taxes on an already poorly paid, smaller pool of working age people (which will just exacerbate the lack of births), higher immigration and pension age raised to 70+, probably some combination of all those. I was shocked to read recently, official stats as of 2019 showed the median Japanese 70yo has less than $100k in assets and a retired couple has a median combined income of just $30k a year. As things stand, that's only going to get worse.
