Interesting to see that the role of musician was just as much a secondary occupation of guards and bureaucrats as it was (historically) in the West (mostly servants of the household.)

No, this was shot from the licensed media area facing towards paid seating. There are some decent free spots at Shimogamo looking over the stream.
Who is the narrator? I'm convinced she's a Westerner, but my Japanese friend is convinced she's Japanese because her pronunciation of Japanese terms is perfect.
