Thanks for another great video! In the AirBnB house, the "stairs to nowhere" look like they were the original staircase before they expanded. If you look on the paneling of the new stairwell at 9:50 and 14:40 you can see new wood paneling with the same angle of the old staircase that lines up with the mystery section. That toilet room looks like a new addition, and both the mystery window and cement stairwell are both probably set in load bearing walls and were too expensive to remove. It also looks like the old stairwell emerged into that bedding closet room and is a new height expansion. (I watch too many remodeling shows). BTW that radiator-like heater is a new electric heater that is totally safe to use. I have one like that in the US and it is filled with oil (not as fuel) instead of water. The heating element heats the oil, and the oil remains warm for hours. It also has a thermostat on it that cycles it on and off, and with no exposed heating element, it is safer because there is also a much lower chance of anything falling on it and catching fire, unlike that smaller heater you were using downstairs in the living room. But like Mike the Gamer mentioned, that type of heater usually has a mercury switch in it that will shut it off if it is knocked over.

That Okonomiyaki restaurant, in Gion is so much fun. Was there in 2007. In addition to the interesting notice board there were mannequins throughout the restaurant, at the tables.No need to dine alone. Like you guys, we enjoyed is very much. Thanks. Mackerel has such an amazing flavor because it's oil content is off the charts. And the oil almost is butter like. It makes the fish have a very thick and unique flavor naturally. I love it!

I had that same plug in radiator in the bedroom, it works great! 3 of those heated a 3 bedroom 1500sq ft house when our furnace broke in the middle of a Chicago winter. We kept them away from walls, but otherwise we felt very safe with them. Put off a ton of heat.

Finally, man. I was so hyped for this episode. Now im amazed bout the tube at the house. It's like controling an airplane hahaha Now I watched the video of the guy trespassing the Nintendo building. Although I understand the feeling, trespassing ain't cool bro. Anyway, good thing is you could stand on such place. The tube restorant is so rad, I wish I could eat somewhere like that one day. You see those paloma style hot water heaters a fair amount in Hawaii, although they are usually rigged for the whole house. You also see ofuros as well. And, yes, they are tiny -- unless it is a new installation. I have seen cylindrical ones with seats molded inside. Much more comfortable, but difficult to get in and out of! Love your videos!

Woo new video!! People always think Japan is on the cutting edge of technology and it's partially true but when you went through your Airbnb place, it clearly shows some things are still in the past. I'm not saying it's a bad thing as I think it's a huge part of the charm of Japan. Did you partake in the seafood okonomiyaki, Eric? Ahh Kyoto was a great place to visit. It was almost overwhelming to me since there was so much to see, and it felt like I had barely seen anything despite 5 days of wandering about. When I left it was like I was leaving too soon, like I was being a party pooper and ducking out early. It does feel like nowhere else in the world. Which reminds me, another place that had a unique feeling about it was Nara. It was an ancient capital of Japan- the first "permanent" capital since before the tradition was after each emperor died, the imperial court would pick up and move to an entirely new city. Anyway I stayed in the old part of town and despite it being a decent sized city, it felt like I was in a small town. The fact there were deer everywhere in the parks, and the old part of town were buildings that were 400+ years old helped a lot. My ryokan window looked out on a temple covered in gold leaf and bright colours... Kyoto and Nara were both in the unique atmosphere category. I know you've already been to Nara but it might be worth a second visit.

When I went to Kyoto in November 2013 I booked my hotel 11 months in advance for around £70 ($100) per night and that was for a very well located hotel next to Shijo Station on the Karasuma Line. Then a few months later around March/April all the well located hotels with good prices were sold out! The Sakura season is even more mental though.. Again I went to book the hotel around 11 months in advance of the trip and I was very lucky with getting one of the last few good prices for a decent hotel! The problem is a lot of the tour guides (looking at you Japanican) book out tons of rooms at the affordable hotels for the Kyoto + Shinkansen tour package....

I like the radiator that you showed. I have an oil radiator with fan. You can lay a t shirt or towel on that but I am only having it for the heat. It is safe. With oil radiator or electrical radiator or heat element you have to remember to not put something upon it. This is what people has to have in their mind. But with an oil radiator you can have it on all the time.

+Lutisiwi I'm not Kyde/Eric, but I can tell you Japan is incredibly safe. You should ofc not be stupid when you get there, cause pickpocketing can still happen, but it is incredibly rare. You can leave your wallet on the ground somewhere and 9 times out of 10 someone who notices it will go out of their way to get it back to you.

Probably has at least $100USD (in yen) inside as well as her ID, insurance card, driver's licence, etc. It's amazing that we don't have to worry about stuff like that at all in Japan as there is basically zero crime here. Hey guys :) love your videos. Just spent the night watching most of them. I'm In the middle of an education masters at the moment and Did Japanese in secondary school in Ireland and excelled at it. I'd love to become qualified in teaching the language. It requires me to spend 6 months in Japan before I can teach it though (as well as having particular modules done). I lived in Singapore as a kid which was very americanised in comparison to Japan so seeing your vids was like a new experience of Asia :) What I'm trying to get at is, do you know anything about the JET programme to teach English for a year? If so, is it worth doing or should I try to find a decent job in Japan through different routes? :) thanks guys and hope you're well xo

I stayed in an older Japanese house that was finished but kind of not. it was all wood but it was way darker colored and the windows were tiny. at night walking on the creaky floors and dark narrow windy stairs was super scary. I'd be too scared to look around corners in case I saw a scary ghost boy or something staring back at me.

I can't help but wonder.. Do Japanese elderly ever have knee/back/hip trouble? Because sitting down so low & standing back up can prove difficult when you are no longer a spring chicken. :P but I guess with more modern homes, they have sofas & higher tables... I'm just wondering with more traditional homes like these.

I'm surprised people comment that you two eat a lot. For a man his height I feel like Eric really doesn't eat much at all. I'm always surprised with how small his meals are. My stepbrother is 6'7 and he eats probably 3X what Eric eats in a sitting. Keeping him fed was always a struggle for my mom while he lived at home. He went through a gallon of milk in 2-3 days, all on his own. No one else in the house drinks cow's milk. And my stepbrother isn't fat. Watching you two I've always been concerned that Eric doesn't eat enough.

+mandas677 Haha, I find it interesting how some people think we overeat and other people think we undereat, even though they see the same footage. But to be honest the videos don't show everything we do eat, and sometimes it appears we eat a lot in a video but in reality it will be 3 meals in a day separated by hours of walking around that doesn't come off properly once everything is edited. -Eric

Kyde and Eric That is funny. But I guess we all compare it to our own lives and what we're used to. My stepbrother and stepdad are both extremely tall and have huge appetites so I'm used to seeing men your height eat a ton of food. But if you're healthy with the amount you eat then it doesn't really matter what I'm used to seeing. Or if I'm surprised that you would feel full after what I would see as an amount of food that would make someone Kyde's size full, not your size. And like you said, we don't see every bite, you just show us the interesting bits. So we miss the pieces of toast/apple/whatever other boring food items you are eating throughout the day.

+Ezekiel Jones I think you're correct, It looked like Carribean (Jamaican) jerk chicken, as well as from Eric's description. It's usually made with Scotch Bonnet chili peppers, which I think was the spicy "pepper" flavor he was referring to. The Pirate part could just be a mistranslation of Carribean.
