Kinkakuji is the most famous temples in Japan because it is the richly decorated golden temple what covered in gold leaf, and it is the Historic Monuments which are World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. Kinkakuji is set in a Japanese strolling garden, The Pavilion seems to float over the mirror pond. It is located in northwest Kyoto.
Kinkakuji was originally constructed as a retirement pavilion in 1397. It has burned down numerous times throughout its history including twice during the Onin War, a civil war that destroyed much of Kyoto. More recently In 1950 it was burnt down by a young fanatic monk and be rebuild in 1955.
