I'm not a Black or Jewish person, so what I think doesn't matter. I noticed that when Black people try to learn about their history and they find information that is different from what they learned, they are told that's a lie or you're wrong. If Black people bring up slavery, they are told that happened hundreds of years ago like it doesn't matter because you're not a slave anymore. I don't see other cultures getting the same push back when they mention how their people suffered in the past. When Black athletes are outspoken, they are labeled as a cancer to the team, destructive, and other things. Other athletes are labeled as passionate or great leaders. I'm no expert when it comes to who is who or where they came from. However, I'm an Anthropology major and we have to learn about cultures from all over the world from way back in the day. In all the paintings and pictures I seen almost everyone was Black. It makes sense because we learned that everything started in Africa before people started to travel out of Africa. It's almost like they don't want Black people to know their whole history.

@@jacobisaac9934 The main idea of the book and movie that Kyrie posted is that today's Black people are the actual blood descendants of the Jews of the Bible, and that today's Jews are the descendants of imposters who somehow stole the identity of the "actual Black Jews". In addition to being anti-Semitic, it's a ridiculous conspiracy theory, disproven by mountains of historical and genetic evidence. Someone in the Black community needs to call out Kyrie, and the author of the book, for lying to Black people about their own heritage. Are there some Black Jews? Yes, there was a community of Black Jews in Ethiopia for centuries. However, most of them now live in Israel. Are there Jews from other parts of Africa besides Ethiopia. Yes, there were communities of Jews throughout North Africa for centuries. However, they were not Black and generally looked like other Jews and other North Africans, meaning that they generally had olive or fair skin and Caucasian features. Like the Ethiopian Jews, most of the North African Jews now live in Israel. But most African Americans like Kyrie are descended from people from West Africa or Central Africa, not North Africa or Ethiopia (which is in East Africa). There is no legitimate historical or genetic evidence of longstanding or widespread Black Jewish populations in West Africa or Central Africa. I think that Kyrie is motivated by a desire to feel pride about his heritage, and for other African Americans to feel pride in their heritage, especially because their ancestors have faced hundreds of years of denigration of their heritage. But believing or spreading a lie about your heritage is not the right way to build that pride. In fact, it's the epitome of insecurity and self-negation, because it involves denying your true heritage and claiming another one which is supposedly preferable. In other words, it's not only anti-Semitic, it's anti-Black.

In 2016, a French Jewish filmmaker, named Lauren Gavron,made a film called, Black Jews, The Roots of an Olive Tree. It documents Hebrew tribes in Africa. What inspired Gavron to make the film was, a book written by Edith Bruder, called, The black Jews of Africa, history, identity, religion. “In sub-Saharan Africa, you can find ‘Judaic’ tribes in Ghana, Nigeria, Mali, Uganda, Cameroon, South Africa, Zimbabwe and even in Sao Tome and other countries,” Bruder said. Many of the black Hebrew tribes that were documented in the film, claimed that their ancestors migrated from Israel and Yemen. These West African countries that have Hebrew communities, are the same countries that African Americans were kidnapped from during the Atlantic Slave Trade. Again, the same African countries that African Americans trace their ancestry back to, contain Hebrew tribes and communities.

@yonah346 Жыл бұрын
That’s very interesting! As a Jew we know very well about the lost tribes of Israel. 10 out of the 12 tribes have been gone. So having some idea that they couldve went to Africa makes a lot of sense to us. What I don’t understand is the narrative that if some blacks are Jewish that means we are fake Jews. We have a direct link for 2000 years of Jewish practice, that’s why we are still religious. So why can’t we be the tribes of Judea and Benjamin and some blacks be from the other tribes? Also it says in the Talmud that before the messiah the 10 lost tribes will come back so it would be the most welcome sight.

The main idea of the book and movie that Kyrie posted is that today's Black people are the actual blood descendants of the Jews of the Bible, and that today's Jews are the descendants of imposters who somehow stole the identity of the "true Black Jews". In addition to being anti-Semitic, it's a ridiculous conspiracy theory, disproven by mountains of historical and genetic evidence. I am unaware of the movie Black Jews or the book Black Jews of Africa, but as far as I know, there is no conclusive evidence for large communities of Black Jews in Africa outside of Ethiopia. There have also been many thinkers who have theorized that many non-Black/non-African populations are actually lost tribes of Israel; sometimes those theories have been proven correct, but more often they have been proven incorrect. But even if we assume that the thesis of that movie and book are correct, and there were communities of Black Jews in Africa (outside of Ethiopia), then all that would mean is that some African Americans may have some Jewish descent. It would not mean that African Americans are Jews (and certainly not that they are the "true Jews" and that Jews from Europe, North Africa and the Middle East are the descendants of imposters who stole the identity of the true Black Jews, as is claimed in the movie and book that Kyrie tweeted about). Moreover, even if there were communities of Black Jews in Africa (outside of Ethiopia), it would not mean that the African Americans are descended, to any significant extent, from those communities. Africa is a big place with a lot of people, the vast majority of whom follow Islam, Christianity and non-Abrahamic indigenous religions. To put it another way, there are many people from Europe, North Africa and the Middle East who have some amount of Jewish ancestry, whether they are aware of it or not. That does not make them "Jews", any more than the trace amounts of Native American blood that some white Americans have makes them "Native Americans".
@afrolore7462
@afrolore7462 Жыл бұрын
@@NathanLGrossman Well you have to understand there's no such thing as a Jewish Gene. So this idea of Jewish ancestry is based off of what? Because unless you have the DNA of the Israelites of antiquity ( Israelites when they came out of Egypt) what's your comparative basis. Lastly there are many historical sources that I can list from explorers and Portuguese slave Traders who stated that tribes in West Africa have Hebrew customs
@NathanLGrossman
@NathanLGrossman Жыл бұрын
@@afrolore7462 Regarding explorers and slave traders describing tribes in West Africa having Hebrew customs, it is possible that those descriptions were accurate. But that doesn't mean that those tribes were descended, to a significant extent, from the Jews living in Israel in Biblical times. There are populations in West Africa that practice Islam, but that doesn't mean that they are descended, to a significant extent, from the Arabs living in the Arabian peninsula at the time the Koran was written. There may have been some genetic intermixing between Jewish, Arabian and West African populations, but that doesn't mean that West Africans in general are Jews or Arabs. There is good evidence that there were Jews who migrated to India and China, and they may have mixed with the local populations. But that doesn't mean that Indians as a whole, or Chinese people as a whole, are Jews. By the same token, there are some white Americans who have some trace amount of Native American ancestry (like a great, great grandfather or grandmother), but that doesn't mean that they are Native Americans.

Well, to be fair, that's a huge issue, from Amazon to social media sites hosting content like this. It just doesn't reach sports media, because why should it. There has been and is ample discussion about the liberal guidelines of content on Amazon and elsewhere. On Amazon, basically anyone can upload a movie, or sell a book they wrote. It's been condemned for years because it's become the #1 distributor of white supremacists literature, because they basically don't vet anything unless it gets reported.

Let's break it down Kyrie endorsed a book (which was badly written) in which the author claims ALL white jews are fakes, their history is fake, that blacks are the only true jews, he uses misquoted words from Hitler, claims the holocaust was exaggerated, used words from the protocols of the elders of zion - we well known historic fake document that is deep hate speech ... and does NO research, has no facts to back up his views, no knowledge of this history - it is nothing more than a slander and attempted theft. There are already 'black' jewish communities in Israel in the Yemini's, Moroccans, Lybians and Bilad El-Sudan ... but the Author is ignorant of these as well ... perhaps they are inconveniently not black enough? When Donald Sterling was outed for HIS views he was rightfully banned for life and the black community rejoiced ... Kyrie is not doing something as bad and how many players or black community members have come out and taken a stand against him?
