ive been tuned in C since i discovered Kyuss...wonders if ill ever be able to play standard again

As a band, we got out of touch. Tensions were high, because there were some personal things in the band that we didnt like, and that we needed to fix. And they werent fixed. Josh wasnt about to fix them, so the tension grew even higher, and it was very difficult. The pressure was building, and personal things came between us, pretty much. It had nothing to do with creative differences or the music that broke Kyuss apart. - John Garcia

the spirit of kyuss heh *tokes* but i'll never forget you anyway... in truth though i was about to say that this is the greatest video on youtube. hands down, a viking, a pair of mexican dudes and a ginger kid play the greatest jam ever recorded.

That's very true, especially on this live version. The solo is very much in a similar vein to those songs you mentioned, and not the rest of the Kyuss catalogue.

What I meant was that it isn't usually considered "classic rock". That genre almost always pertains to the 60's/70's.

It is indeed! Im a fairly new fan of kyuss (about 5 years now) and Kyuss is just one of those bands that truly ROCK. And their music doesnt sound dated at all (kind of like The Pixies in my opinion, not in style just that it sounds new). Lets cross our fingers and hope they get back together sometime but even if they dont, they still have awesome albums.

NuclearGuru350 Scoffing at Kyuss or Queens (old Queens especially) by metal fans just shows how much of a tin ear so many of them have. Especially the Maiden/Priest types. I reckon extreme metal fans are audiophiles just like Kyuss fans are and would appreciate them at least.
@topdogkiller15 жыл бұрын
I definitely agree with you man, i mean he an amazing guitarist but I feel he had way more energy in kyuss than qotsa. Though I really respect him for not trying to recreate another kyuss people should definitly look at his shit in that way.

if you tune your guitar to C F Bb Eb G C, all it is is f minor (fingered like A minor in standard tuning), Ab (fingered like C), and then, keeping the same finger position, sliding up two frets to a Bb-ish chord.

i think for a band to be considered classic rock they need to be from the era. because its not really a genre so much as an era from the 70's. lynyrd synyrd was from classic rock(but their genre was southern rock). led zeppelin was from the era too (but they were early heavy metal). same with black sabbath. pink floyd was progressive rock etc. kyuss will always be associated with the stoner metal movement from the early nineties, along with bands like sleep

@67goldtops Nice sarcasm. I happen to find a lot of emotion in his playing, he's written some of the best riffs in the last 20 years. His soloing style is usually sloppy/dirty but I happen to like it because it doesn't sound like every other guitarist trying to be the best. He has his own style and doesn't try to sound like guys from 40 years ago cause its already done. Listen to Kyuss's "Whitewater" or QOTSA's "You can't Quite Me Baby" live in Rio 2001 (two parter) and tell me he can't play.

that's your opinion. and quite understandable (they're probably one of the more controversial acts out there). Its true they are different, I was just making a jab thats all. No offense to Kyuss. But qotsa is a perfectly fine band, that remains one of the only true rock n roll bands in the mainstream today. and I've never heard anyone define Kyuss as 'classic rock'. though I admit that they have a certain groove that is reminiscent of that era. I still think of em as Stoner Metal

@67goldtops First of all SRV's beer commercial music (I'm sorry that he died and everything, but he made beer commercial music) is MUCH more in line with the taste of the American public than Kyuss will ever be. Second, you sound like one of those musicians who thinks the be-all end-all of music is to play and/or admire someone for playing that which is most difficult to play, without regard to aesthetics or feeling. Ever stopped to think that the off-key aspects of this music were INTENTIONAL?

DEP is the dillinger escape plan. kind of punk, hardcore, jazz stuff. really odd, violent and not for everyone
