holy shit, once again I will try and clarify. This is my very first reaction to this. I don't know the lore, the backstory, the pain, or anything. I am reacting to what I am seeing before my eyes. I highly doubt everyone who is saying that I am "stupid for not liking pain" at this point in the series had no questionable doubts about him too. Why would I be inclined to like someone who is killing all of my favorite characters? Why would I understand where he's coming from if the next episodes which explain his back story aren't out yet? I haven't had time to think about pain, and I haven't seen his backstory at this point. SO, I seriously don't get why people are so confused on why I disliked him here. Seriously, even if I understand him, I can dislike his actions because of what he has done. It absolutely blows my mind that people actually are putting what they know on me and expecting for me to know what I haven't seen. I haven't seen Nagato's true Pain and philosophy, I just hear a clash between philosophies. ALSO: People are confused why I don't think he's a God. I think of a God as being omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent. Pain is clearly not any of these things, as the 9 tail fox is stronger. His planetary destruction was very impressive, but even then the 9 tail was fine and would've just kept attacking Pain if Minato didn't interfere. Try and relax and wait until you see me see his whole backstory, then formulate on if I am stupid for my opinions disagreeing with yours on a subject I haven't been fully exposed to. There are thousands of gods in fiction and anime and there are maybe a few actually fill a single one of these qualities. Typically the only Gods that are omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent are ones in religion and those are debunkable☠️ DB is a good example. It has gods that are extremely weak in comparison to humans, comics as well. I understand the definition, it’s just 1 of a hundred and is easily the most inconsistent definition for a “God”.

This sequence, to me, houses the greatest moment in all of Naruto. When Naruto believes Hinata has been struck down, and he intentionally destroys Tsunade’s gift to him, giving in to his hatred and deliberately unlocking the seal his father died to procure, all Yamato can do is shudder in disbelief as he receives the message that everything he’s known his entire life has gone to ashes while he turned his back. That sequence with red-eyed Naruto walking into the foreground as his visage darkens gets me every single fucking time

Top 3 reasons why my guy pain is a god (love your reactions by the way bro) 1. His rinnegan is the eyes that are from or were created from the sage of six paths which is basically the God of the shinoni world 2. He can take a life away with just small moment of opportunity (example shizune while she was with Inoichi, Ino and an Anbu black ops member) and at this point in the series I think he could kill anyone in the naruto universe except for one man who's stronger you'll see who it is later He can also bring things back to life (as we see with the pain restoring the robot pain)

she did not die...not sure naruto even thought pain killed her cause he can sense chakra...he just wanted to kill pain so badly at that point and his anger made him blind for a little bit and he transformed not thinking..after this he thinks he killed hinata possible and then senses her chakra so the only reason he would think he killed hinata is because he thought pain did not ....he just was mad that pain implied he killed her and knocked her out for naruto's behalf..regrets set in...its the build up of hate pain and revenge after love is crushed in front of your eyes...he was mad about everything he just needed a final straw to beak the camels back if you will..remember he said he would not rely on the ninetails as jiraya warned him not to in fear of being taken control of or dying due to excessive damage using it ..he threw that out the window not just for hinata but in general if anyone he knew got hurt there...eventually you just snap...her words helped obviously push him cause she was so open about dying for him

The whole God thing is just kinda like a front that he has for his people and it's because he has the rinnegan the same eyes as the sage of six path who is the god in the shinobi world. However, he is an ordinary who's just blessed with the same eyes as the sage of six path, so no he's not a god and he doesn't actually think of himself as a god in reality that's why he says he is just a ordinary guy. I think the main reason why Yahiko's body seems indestructible is because after Naruto destroyed the other 5, Nagato now only has to focus his chakra on one body instead of 6 thus allowing Yahiko's body to become a lot more powerful.

21:53 A vast majority of the Kyubii vs Pain fight is filler or a filler interpretation of the fight. For instance everything before the 6th tail sprouts is completely filler, and even the part where Naruto resists Almighty Push is noticeably different. Pain takes a fraction of the damage in the Manga than he does in the Anime here, which is why he is absorbing massive damage here without being harmed. IN the manga, Naruto goes 6 tails, Breaks the seal with the necklace and charges Pain. Pain does Almighty Push but Naruto Anchors his tails in the ground and resists. Then Naruto closes teh distance and does a near point blank Biju Bomb (22:22) only to have Pain drop a large rock on him deflecting the attack. Even though it missed it still tears off a part of Pains Robe (24:12) but he only took one minor glancing blow attack. Pain Runs away and does Planetary Devastation, and Naruto goes 8 tails. All in all a really short fight which from the start of the transformation to Naruto going 8 tails could have easily fit in 3-4 minutes of animation, 5-6 if you took it slow. They inflated it to 12 minutes with all the filler and slow pacing.

It still kills me that one of the most anticipated scenes for manga readers ended up being turned into this. The budget was obviously high and the animation fluid, but they tossed out the art style and canon so hard that it's tragic. In the original scene, his rage shot him straight to 6-tails. Pain had very little ability to fight back against him; No laser beam attacks, no absurdly durable Pain, no completely out of nowhere forcefield energy barriers. It's nothing but one sided domination as he desperately struggles, quickly realizing that the previous tailed beasts pale in comparison to the fox he was stupid enough to wake up.

There are more memorable fights than this one that didn't sabotage everything for the sake of one lead animator's desire to go Looney Tunes. There's also no reason to even abandon the art style to give it more fluidity. Fluidity and the current style weren't mutually exclusive.

Pain the Best Villain in Anime History straight up. His character is beyond dope, he goes way beyond Just strength. He killed Jiraya. He killed kakashi (despite nagato reviving everybody in the end pain was the one who killed kakashi not nagato even though nagato controlled them the whole time). Almost killed Hinata. Destroyed the Leaf in one move (the main village in the show, "the protagonists" If you Will). His theme Girei is the Best in the show. His story is beyond dope, who he is, How he acts, the way he speaks With a God voice, everything about Pain is so Damn well made, kishimoto really way to Go on this one for creating this masterpiece called Pain. For me him along with Itachi are by Far the two greatest Written Characters in Naruto franchise. Pain First, Itachi Second That's why kishimoto named the Arc after Pain because he's an Epic masterpiece in Anime History. Honestly naruto is a good series mainly because of Pain.

They changed the artistic style to further emphasize the power of their fight. This is a different league. This is amazing! Where does all this water come from? Here is the tremendous power of rinnegan. It is able to create a lake in dry terrain. Since it has rinnegan, it can control all the basic elements. It's good that instead of water he didn't use another element on such a scale! The sage of six paths created the moon but he was again several leagues stronger than Nagato.

To be honest, the fight is very different in the manga, and the people that did this episode probably smoked a fat blunt before animating it. The animation and fight is goofy, things happen that don't really make sense (the roots, water, Pain can use his shira tensei with no restriction for one episode only...). Years ago, going in this episode knowing the fight from the manga was pretty disappointing

i think its cause hinata was so beloved so when this chapter came out it was a big deal everyone talked about it so the anime wanted to show why it mattered so much to people through art style change....if it looked like it did before or after like the manga it would be lame and not stand out...its her big moment until the war of part 2 and most of the series since the middle of the exams ..its important to enhance naruto's future wife's episode ...she has like 5 in total in the entire canon series to herself this is one of them and the third one..its literally the last time she gets anything in the manga to do besides those 2 chapters in the war 1 about her fighting and the moment naruto saves her and 1 about her speech

My personal opinion is Nagato never had a god complex. Yahiko said that he would become a god and end the suffering. And Nagato took that to heart. And since he was using Yahiko’s body he was trying to lowkey make Yahikos dream a reality. Also when Nagato fought Jiraiya he mentioned. That if he is a god than what he says is absolute. The whole pain being a god thing is just a persona. But with Naruto he’s actually trying to have a real conversation. Basically Nagato is the Haku in the relationship. And Yahiko was the Zabuza.

You have to think in relative terms, Pain (Nagato) is one of the most powerful characters in the series that we've been introduced to UP TO THIS POINT. His destruction power is just unprecendeted. He can obliterate places the size of a city in a second, he can create meteorites, he has the ability of bring himself (bodies that Nagato controls) back to life, and also for another reason you will discover later in a few episodes, I dont want to spoil it yet. Just to introduce scaling into discusion: He killed the former leader of the Hidden Rain Village Hanzo the Salamander effortlessly. This is the same guy who battled Jiraya, Tsunade and Orochimaru in one of the Shinobi Wars at the same time and WON (he then declared them legendary sannins because they were the only ones that survived facing him). Until very recently in the series, the Sanins were considerd the most powerful ninjas in the Nautoverse, with arguably very few exceptions (not saying they really are, but you have to compare them to what you have been seeing up to th introduction of this arc). Now obviously none of the Sannins were at that time on the same level of the times contemporary with Naruto, but still.

Now, I am not defending Nagato's philosophy. I disagree with it of course, but I will try to explain where he is coming from. Saying that he is a hypocrite by wanting peace but commiting war is of course simple. And it is true. But he is aware of that. But there is more to it and it will be revealed later. Not gonna spoil it, but from what you know this episode, Nagato, Konan and Yahiko suffered immense hardship growing up, so they wanted calm and peace like notihng else. Thus Nagato developed philosophy that only people who suffered pain can truly wish for peace. While people who have gone unscathed are warmongerers by nature. Therefore his goal is to cause so much suffering and fear that the entire world will bend over and never think of war again. This whole idea is inspired by Mutual Assured Destruction, and the way Japan bent over after Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Also, Nagato doesn't believe he is a god. At least not honestly. All the God talk is more philosophical and symbolic, and of course an image that he maintains for his goal, rather than him having some delusions of divinity. Even after he would have died, the idea of judging God would remain trough Konan and her acolytes, since almost no-one ever saw pain anyway. There is also some inspiration in Christianity, both with Nagato being skinny, dying man, impaled on a contraption. But instead of all this redemption trough forgiveness. Nagato wants to redeem the world trough pain.

I like how everyone tries to defend Nagato or pain saying trying to justify his revenge on the leaf. Like Heisuten said not everyone in the leaf was evil but pain still killed a bunch of innocent people yet everyone is still defends nagato saying that the leaf are hypocrites and did the same to the rain. Its basically the same mentality Sasuke had. Not everyone in the uchiha was evil or knew about the coup yet all of the uchiha were sacrificied for peace in the leaf. Its literally the same the Rain village was sacrificed for peace in other villages so everyone uses that to justify nagato's actions. Pain is not a god yet has literally the eyes of a god capable of wiping an entire village from existence casually. His physical body is human but his abilities at this point in the story far surpass anybody else's that have been introduced. The ability to rip souls out of peoples bodies is pretty godly if you ask me. Also A god and THE God are 2 different things. Zeus is considered A god but is not all powerful therefore he is not THE God. THE God is omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient all at the same time and is unaffected by time, space and matter. Pain never referred to himself as THE God. He only referred to himself as A god. Not trying to hate but you guys might want to pay attention a little more closely to what Pain is actually inferring.
