+torchiest they don't exist anymore - nowadays they are just mindless money obsessed trash for the most part. Music used to be about something, used to convey a message, a feeling. Now it's just about 'yo bitch' this and that and repeating the same three words over and over again. For me music has clearly regressed from the early 2000's onwards with a few noticeable exceptions.

Too right She should have been talking about how she took Curve's four-track tapes into high end studios and mixed it down to produce that gritty, edgy spacey sound. They weren't afraid to use drum loops, guitar loops, synth sequencers and screeching feedback as the canvas for her delicate vocals. The result was a truly massive wall of sound. Along side Leftfield and NIN, they were pioneers of that grunge-dub-electronica sound, still going strong.

such an intelligent and creative band, both of them have such a wealth of talent, personality and creative ingenuity. Toni is a pure joy to listen to as an interviewee, alongside being one of the best vocalists in the world. rest of the band were awesome, too, the public just didn't deserve a band like this then, and I don't think we deserve it now. they were making a uniquely aggressive blend of pop music for thinking people in the mainstream public. there just wasn't enough of that then and probably not enough now for Curve to get the appreciation that they so clearly deserve. this should have been the breakthrough in the modern urban musical landscape, their stuff was every bit as groundbreaking for pop as things like Nirvana or, say, Massive Attack. thanks for putting this out!
@KywokiYakasaki3 жыл бұрын
I disagree a bit, I think it would be awesome if we could have them back, it would be something different and better in a world where nowadays music are so generic and all artists sound the same. I think they could make a huge difference now as they did in the past, we could've been listening to new Curve songs now if they were back, but Toni doesn't want to.
@danilalikhachev3413 жыл бұрын
@@KywokiYakasaki it would surely be fantastic to hear new music from them, what I meant is, I doubt it would garner a success as widespread as it deserves. i feel like the majority of today's listeners are even more desentisized and have even less of an attention span to get really grabbed by something original. but then, I might be underestimating them, my perspective is very limited. of course, I'd like you to be right on this!
@KywokiYakasaki3 жыл бұрын
@@danilalikhachev341 I see, the only way to make young people know Curve is if the fans show them the band, I only found Curve cause I played Frequency for ps2, otherwhise I would've never heard about them, here in Brazil I only met 3 or 4 people who know Curve too, it's hard to find someone who knows them. I always try to recommend their music and Toni's too to my friends, it would help if we all could show everyone that they exist, and unfortunately most people still don't know the band.

I used to love Curve. Doppelganger, Cuckoo, Fait EP, Frozen. Listening to them now tho, I dont think their sound has aged that well to be honest. Too much reliance on sequenced drum tracks that dont change throughout the whole song, and layers and layers of feedback. Nice for a bit of nostalgia every now and then.
@juancarlossahli38326 жыл бұрын
That's true for Doppelganger and the EPs....Cuckoo had a really progressive sound, much more dynamic and less sequenced, you can hear it very much in the work of these new shoegaze-influenced bands like No Joy....Their late 90s, 00s more electronic sound also holds up well, despite being very niche-y.

Please don’t kill me for this, this is just my opinion after all: I’ve been a die-hard Shirley Manson and Garbage fan for years, and I’ve only been getting into Toni and Curve more recently, and I gotta say: they’re fucking awesome. The _Come Clean_ and _Gift_ albums are amazing, although I have also listened to some of their earlier stuff, such as “Clipped” and “Coast is Clear.” (Both great songs, btw.) Both Shirley and Garbage, and Toni and Curve are marvels in rock music in my book; sometimes, I feel people only compare the two bands because Shirley and Toni sound alike, which I kinda think is unfair. Besides, Curve is a lot more “heavier,” industrial sounding and more louder, while Garbage has a bit more of a pop flair; a lot of bands sound similar to another anyway.
@KywokiYakasaki2 жыл бұрын
lol don't worry, I have no reason to 'kill' you, you have the right to think whatever you want, after all people's taste in music are different and that's ok. And about what you said, I totally agree with you, although I'm not a Garbage fan, I find it nonsense to compare both bands, and all the arguments and fights over those 2, it's just ridiculous. I tried listening to Garbage in the past though but I can't like their music at all, the only one that I like is Vow, they're a great band but I really can't seem to enjoy their music, different tastes.
