I was 10 or 11 when this came out and my mother absolutely loved this album. As I grew up I went in the direction of rock, heavy metal and beyond, but after she passed away in 2012 I gradually checked out more of the music she was into. Needless to say, Leftfield - in particular 'Leftism', blew me away. Incredible record I somehow missed as I was into 90's dance/rave/house/electro as a teenager, the opening four lines of this song are an incredible earworm. I could immerse myself in this all day.

Because most of the public were too busy arguing about Blur vs Oasis (both shit IMO) and All Saints vs The fucking Spice Girls around this time, and only a few 'in the know' people were listening to stuff like this (comparatively speaking) - I was knee deep in Goa/Psytrance when this came out (I still am to be fair) and I loved this album. To be fair Leftfield did have a fair old following back then. Not as huge as Oasis or Blur and all of that, but Leftism did strike a chord with a lot of people, myself included. I was in my early 20's when it came out and was really broadening my horizons musically back then and was listening to all sorts from Napalm Death to the Aphex Twin to Lee Scratch Perry. Leftism was just incredible though. Still sounds relevant today in this Godawful year of 2020.

I went to see Leftfield for the 2nd time, I was 5 months pregnant with my last baby, who grew up to be a beautiful chilled and loving son. Before anyone says anything, I ordered the tix before I fell pregnant, and after arrival my ex and his mates dropped pills and left me to look after their coats. I don't put up with bullshit and 'lost' their property, some of it in the toilet (oops). The bonus was that a security guard took pity on me so he let me up on the balcony where wives, and girlfriends, and anyone else personally connected to the band sat. I was so glad for that gesture. It turned out what was a shitty time, magically transformed into a glorious evening. I was able to dance without fear of anyone barging into me. I went to see so many bands whilst pregnant, and my seemed to love this, and today he is a Leftfield fan. It was a fantastic evening that could have been shit..

Yeah man, Was living in Western Australia, and left everything and went to Melbourne for 20 years playing music. The 90's was when we hit it. We had never seen anything like it before. The first night we were there we all dropped acid. Man, no one would believe that night. Helicopters with spotlights, crazy people, adrenaline. It was amazing. The 90's was an intense time of cool and originality. All waiting for 2000 to turn over and the world descend into computer bug chaos. The internet was amazing, so was the internet art, warez from radium, uwwwb, and it's endless. At times it was like the dark web was on the surface. Not to mention bubba zenetti's wild leech ranch. This music takes me to a time. In a sense, it was the MDMA time.

The lyrics to this song are literally about thirty years ahead of their time. We're living in a world where digital media is part of our lives in a way that almost nobody would have guessed or predicted. Some people are ahead of that curve and lots of us are still only just catching on. I don't think I'm wrong when I say nowadays we're living in a world where the relavence of that on a psychological and philosophical level, can't be overstated. Those in the know tend to be either exploiting or trying to warn. It's like we are living in a world of "influencers" and "followers". Will it ever be the same again?

My first child my son was born when this first came out. He's now 23 and I've gotten him into a lot of great music that I listen to. For some reason the only leftfield track he knew was release the pressure. Thankfully I've opened his eyes his mind and his future by playing leftism in my car when I take him to and from football. I'm 50 yrs old now and I've got some great music from me being very young all the way up until 90's. Then it just stopped, the only music that I listened to after 2 thousand is from bands that were formed in the early to mid 90's or before that. Its a sad time for music in general now all we get is manufactured pop crap. We've started doing the same crap as they've been doing in America for decades. Why do we copy anything whatsoever from that country ill never know as we've always done a lot better ourselves.

@Parawata4 жыл бұрын
@@jibbajabba4712 You've misunderstood what Mandie is saying. It's sinful to be an individual, conformity is what is applauded. But....in today's world of double speak, conformity is disguised as individuality. So you're encouraged to have your own opinion, and people will applaud it with "likes"......just as long as it's in agreement with everyone else's. Good luck to anyone who relies on their public image for a living to voice an opinion of their own.
