i was about to ask the same question. why did he add 400 with 60? he had to add 400 and 59(relatvive mode concept).

@@KyselPoints no, that would be the case if 400 was executed and we had to jump 60 steps (then it would go to 461), here it just says go to 400+60.

Sir, if the memory heap extends from 400 to 1200 and we write BR 550 in between so does it jump to (400+550) or jump to 550 ?? you used BR for both displacement and the direct address... so i dont get it

To my understanding, PC and base address is the difference. PC increments after each instruction execution. Base address holds base address of program and doesn't change within that program.

In relative addressing PC (program counter) is implicitly used as a base register. New addresses are generated relative to PC in base register addressing, any general purposes register can be used as a base register

As per my understanding, In this mode, offset/displacement is calculated from the Base Register which is 400. To reach to 460th slot, we need to give 60, not 59. In Relative Mode, offset/displacement is calculated from PC (which is current slot+1). Assume the current slot is 420th, then Base Reg = 400 and PC -> 421 To reach to 460th slot : When Relative mode is used: Branch 39 (Jump to PC+Offset i.e. 421+ 39 = 460) When Base Reg Mode is used: Branch 60 (Jump to Base Reg+Offset i.e. 400+ 60 = 460)
