Glad to see more of your videos. Thank you for all the work you put into them. Had an additional question, have you been back recently? It was reported that there had been some unrest recently, I have been planning to go back to revisit those locations. What are your thoughts? Is it possible to contact you?

Enjoy your videos I had a uncle that had the pleasure vacationing on that island but he was in the army, the marines get all the credit.

The Army did more amphibious ops than USMC in WW2. But USMC had more casualties per capita, something like 5% of the total force but 10% of the total casualties. The USMC deserves its cred. As for Guadalcanal.....as much glory as the USMC gets....this was first and foremost a Navy heavyweight battle. USN lost about 3-4x as many men as the USMC, and the Japanese navy was far superior in relative capability than the Japanese army. This is why both sides lost about 25 ships each, while the US only lost a fraction of the men that Japan lost on land, maybe 20%? All that being said....all branches deserve glory and gratitude for what they did there. Semper Fi all.

@@doctordetroit4339 thanks and very true re the number of amphibious ops by the Army. They racked up a number in the Philippines and the SW Pacific. The Marines performed more opposed landings however. I try and bring the Army’s story on Guadalcanal out. I’m hoping in the next few months of appearing on WW2 TV just talking entirely on the US Army’s role on Guadalcanal.

@@doctordetroit4339 yes the USN lost a little over 1000 KIA in 30 minutes alone.

Does anyone know if there is more info on the 1st Amphib Tractor Bn in this battle. My grandfather was in Bravo Co on Guadalcanal and spoke about this battle, but I can’t find anything specific. Thank you to whoever may read this and comment, I will check back.

I only know where their positions were during the Bloody Ridge battle. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a memoir or personal account by a Marine of that Bn on Guadalcanal.

Thanks, it is unfortunate there is little details of that unit. I know he was with 5th Marines at Cape Gloucester because he did that 2nd landing there, which is documented in his SRB. He was also either with 5th or 7th on Pelelieu because he was on that island until Oct 20th, and the 1st Marines left sooner. I will keep plugging away and hopefully I will stumble upon those finite details. Thank you regardless, keep up the good work!
