Open Season is a video game, based on the movie of the same name. It was released for Wii, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, Microsoft Windows, Game Boy Advance, Xbox 360, Xbox, Nintendo DS, and Nintendo GameCube. The Nintendo DS version supports the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

I’m surprised that this game has taken inspiration from Mega Man in terms of gameplay! Select a level in any order you want, go from point a to point b, and even fight a boss at the end!

This brings back memories. As a kid, I was obsessed with the various video games for this movie. This game was shockingly good. It's a shame it's so short, way shorter than the set top console/PC version. I liked playing this game on my DS Lite back in the day. It turns out the DS version is actually different from this, as well as the console version. It's a 3D platform puzzle game that looks shockingly good for 3D on the DS (not to be confused with 3DS). Pretty ambitious. The level design reminded me of Crash Bandicoot 1. The sprites are pretty zoomed in, but the game actually seems to have its levels designed around that limitation. Boog and Elliot go through the levels together, and you switch to controlling 1 or the other so that they both make it to the end. Someday I'll have to play it myself. My description comes from gameplay footage I've seen uploaded here to KZbin. People have even made a widescreen patch for it if you play the game using Twilight Menu on the 3DS. PC and console versions are good for a laugh. Fun concept for a video game. Better than the movie, IMO. The movie's premise translates pretty well to a video game. I know there's also an old Java-based game that has the same visual style as this GBA version of the game, for the older Java based feature phones that were popular for a time before the smartphone era began. I remember seeing ads for it back in the day. And finally, I recall there being flash-based games, too. Those were free, of course. Weirdly higher quality than one would expect from a licensed movie game. It set me up for expecting most to be decent enough as a kid (lol, poor me! I learned my lesson quickly).

I saw that movie long ago, (I think way back in 2018 or something) but i'm surprised this game went not only well developed by Ubisoft, but also looks nice in the sprite artwork, and cinematics used... As for the gameplay, is at least an generic platformer with good moveset. Good game for 2006 standards. 😉

I like this a lot. A fun mix of plattforming and shooter. It looks, sounds and plays great. Just to bad that it so short, and really zero replay value. Nothing to collect, no high scones or mini games. Still a solid 7 out of 10 game!
