I live a few miles from the Kiabab National Forest in Arizona and they are constantly doing control burning. I can't imagine what its like in California if what some commenters are saying is true that the officials in California haven't done the brush clearing to prevent disaster. I hope everyone is getting to safety. Condolences to the families of the victims. Prayers with the firefighters that they too can be safely returning home when this disaster is under control or over.

Actually, homes in those areas do have some restrictions on building materials, but it may be impossible to build a completely fire-proof building. And before you think they should be built of brick, be aware that brick is not good for this climate nor is it any good in an earthquake unless it is reinforced with steel rods.

They do have planes and helicopters dumping water. Most people have no idea what a fire of this magnitude is like. Probably by the time the fire got to the houses shown, it was already raging out of control, and spraying some water from the pool is not going to stop it. And the house would have been evacuated by then anyway.

The fires are nearby. The wind carried embers to the homes and neighborhoods. Live trees do not catch fire from embers (a raging inferno is a different story). @ They enter war zones where even residents are still permitted to be there. Also, war footage has to be censored, edited and ok’d by state or government officials before being allowed to air. These guys are only edited by their own network. Besides, apparently you can’t see the extremes differences between filming a war or a wildfire.

It may be called "mandatory evacuation," but no force is used and no officials enter your home and make you leave. You can stay there with the reporters if you want.
