Dave really kicked ass on this video. God bless Jim Tyler and his family. Jim really loved Jesus and I will always remember him in my heart and soul. What an amazing person and would always speak his mind unfiltered. Amazing job Dave. 💗

A lot of this honestly sounds to me like a halfway point between Steve Lukather and David Gilmour. Can't say I've ever been able to describe someone's playing in that way before. It sounds awesome.

I remember hearing a lot about Dann Huff in the 80s. I remember when he got this trio Giant together. Great band. One of the absolutely best guitarists of all time. I remember his Tyler strats. Owned a Boogie 50 Cal which had a similar preamp to the Studio Preamp which I always liked more than the Mark III. The Kasha Rockmod II was also brilliant. Great rig there.

Wow, I had similar rig back in the 90' minus the eventide h3000 and I used two of the Roland SDE 1000 instead of the 3000 brings back a lot of memories I sold it and picked up a twin and a vox with a Marshall JVM as my drive which sounds really good as well anyway I loved all great rigs and cool sounds Thanks.

Shit, this may be the ultimate rack setup: lexicon reverb, Roland delay, dimension, trichorus and detune, para eq and mesa preamp. I would just add a ts808, ce2 for a more standard chorus, a dyna comp, phase 90 and an electric mistress.

What strings and picks are you using here? (brand and gauge for both please) I ask because those two things have a huge effect on getting a particular strat sound. Especially when it comes to positions 2 and 4.
@RACKDOCTOR3 ай бұрын
D'Addario 10 gauge with Dunlop .88 pick. Dann used Dean Markley .009 with medium pick.
@independentthinker.2733 ай бұрын
@@RACKDOCTORIs there a particular medium pick that he might have used brand and material/shape? I've used hundreds of medium picks of various materials and still searching for the holy grail. I just came across the Fender premium pearloid picks. I found a medium purple pick captures most of what I hear in Dann's tone. But I'm still searching. I cannot stand jazz picks. They are too stiff and they choke the string vibration.
@RACKDOCTOR3 ай бұрын
@@independentthinker.273 Dann's was a Dean Markley medium tear drop.
@independentthinker.2733 ай бұрын
@@RACKDOCTOR they probably don't make those anymore. But I have tried the Dunlop medium teardrop. Those are the 347 shape. I've also tried the Fender version too. Which are quite different than Dunlop. Thank you for solving a 30-plus year mystery. I can sleep easy at night knowing this now. 🙂
@independentthinker.2733 ай бұрын
@@RACKDOCTOR When you say teardrop do you mean the 358 or the 347? The 347 is the large round ones.

Can someone explain to me why rack units sound so much better than individual pedals or multi-fx units? There is something about them where they sound so much more full and not so fake?

They need to make a version of that guitar that will age nicely like Dann’s original Fender. I hate it when guitars stay perpetually slick and plasticky.
