When I started working in nightclubs in the UK they were permitted to have casinos, which later were banned. I would wander into the casino while the top of the bill were doing their act and the croupiers would sling some cards at me and ask to see a trick. Because of that I developed handlings that allowed me to duplicate just about all of the trick deck capabilities using normal cards... it's worth learning those skills.

Good foundation for a routine. Spectator could 'lock' the card box with a rubber band. You could flick the rear card up as the deck is slammed down so the switch is more visual before allowing spectator to open the box. Martin has miniatured metamophosis. Time to grab my SnL deck and rethink my patter. Cheers.

Good to see that Pepper's Ghost, the Victorian effect, still impresses people today

"Yes, Paul!" ;) I whole-heartedly agree on the not flogging of principles. I see my colleagues perform ambitious ace routines, repeating the exact same move 7 times in the same routine... or they're shuffling away specific cards in exactly the same way each time and then perform the same trick a couple times in a row... What was that about keeping secrets and respecting your audience's intelligence?

A friend of mine had the first Sven Deck in Bicycle Poker I'd ever seen (very early 80's). In the old Magic Circle Clubroom (remember Chenies Mews?) he convinced a small group of 'card men' that he was doing the World's greatest invisible pass routine! Most saw the funny side. One walked away in disgust saying what a waste of time it was using a gaffed deck. Clearly, someone didn't learn a valuable lesson. ;-)

As so many professional magicians will tell you, and as taught by the late great Ken Brooke, never overdo the use of any principle in magic. Any fakery is fine unless you flog it to death whereupon it will become obvious.

My immediate thought is can you do the sandwich type rising card.. then the transpo/change would be much stronger as the card passes through the deck and rises as the assistant.? =

Except I don't think it's a good idea to show the whole deck has changed because that reduces their amazement at your skill and makes them realise you are using a trick deck

Miniaturised and metamorphosis. Posted without reviewing my spelling. Apologies. (Bad grammar and spelling annoys me)
