An excellent review Pep. Moist is a great way to describe the florals in the opening.

Loved this! Really enjoyed the explanation of the names of these two fragrances and regions they were inspired by. Timbuktu never grabbed my heart in a significant way, it’s good, but something about it neve resonated with me. Oddly it sounds like the aspects of it that I like are here as well. Going to have to give Dzongkha a try. -Chris

I have a feeling that dry smoky wood accord might be it. Definitely worth a try

sounds like a nice fragrance. I too, like peonies - when they come to season, I always bring some from the garden and they fill the air with a wonderful scent. Litchi is very watery, kind of gelatinous fruit, very subtle taste (at least those I have had, which were imported).

I'm glad you were able to get a sense of what it smelled like.

@@TheScentinel if you mean you-then you always make sense, Pep. If you mean the fruit...kind of flat...but imported...might be different off the tree ;-)

I think you're one of the few to prefer Dzongkha to Timbuktu. Evocative as usual, Pep. I liked Timbuktu as a sample, but not enough to buy it. Maybe this will be different.

Beautiful descriptions particularly the sweetness of sadness. Thankfully I have a sample I can test tomorrow. Ive had lychee several times and smell is barely there.. it is sweet and watery so maybe it is an artistic interpretation of the flavor

I'd say so, but ut compliments the peony accord beautifully

Absolutely love your reviews, but this one is tough. As someone who haven't sampled Timbuktu, the flowery language makes it really hard for me to get a sense for how dzongkha will be like. Perhaps the combination of needing a reference and the less concrete verbiage make it difficult. Thanks for what you do!

Opens quite floral and a little bit aquatic. Peonies have a delicate, soft sweetness. In the middle it starts to get drier and a little bit smoky. I think this is from the woodier materials along with an earthy orris root. It has a dry, cool, petrified wood effect in the base. I hope this helps a little more but hopefully there are lots of reviews out there that describe it a little better.

Love this one and Timbaktu both. I would actually suggest trying the lychee fruit because you can really smell it in the opening with the peony in this one.

Unfortunately since this video on the Timbuktu comparison, i have not re-tested, so i can only stay with my original position.
