Yes but if a taichu man was young enough Atkinson would’ve not beat him . Another thing in reality the western fight with a strong men sometimes was challenging Ipman style , especially if you are a strong body builder. The only way to beat western style of Marshall arts taichi with a good train young man still can beat westerners. That’s what I am thinking. Ipmans styles sometimes were beaten by westerns strong men , as long as they know what their doing.

The Ip man movies starring Donnie Yen have some of the best fight choreography that you will ever see in a martial arts movie. The editing, camerawork, stunts and overall choreography is seamless. The hits look real, the connects and cuts are fluid, along with the added sound effects almost every fight scene feels so robust. It also helps that most of the actors are trained martial artists such as Yen and Adkins. Hollywood cannot replicate fight scenes as deft as this. You can always see how fake, fight scenes are.

This is the most overrated movie in the world, though I can say they're very good in fighting, and covering things. But yo, this guy beat the Tyson ass, in real life (or the character was supposed to be like human) Mike Tyson would've easily ended him up in a matter of minute if not seconds. My friend in his prime, could beat adkins, because of his 5th degree black belt in judo, taught by a master judoka, from japan, a 3rd degree black belt in shorin ryu karate, the most overly effective form of karate, a 1st degree black belt in ful contact TKD, which conditioned him to take harder punches and kicks, and allowed him to be less fatigued in pro sanctioned fight, his profiency at boxing and his former status as a pro kick boxer...His black belts are legit, cuz he had to beat 4 guys at the same time and they didn't hold back in order to complete his belt earnings...He could, not saying he would accidentaly put adkins in the ICU, w/ shorin ryu...Food for thought...God bless 🙂 😊

The difference here is that the Master Sergeant Barton is in his physical prime. He can take a beating from the Chairman Wan's punches and kicks plus his stamina and endurance let him last longer in any one-one-one fight. Plus, he can execute very powerful blows with each punch and kick he delivers. I do pity the Chinese Masters especially Chairman Wan. His skill in Taichi cannot be questioned and is unmatched, but he is already in his early 50's to near late 50's and cannot take a very long takedown beating as he does not have the stamina and endurance to match the Master Sergeant. Chairman Wan has the skill but not enough forceful power to deliver the gut-wrenching blows to the Master Sergeant. Chairman Wan relies on the Taichi to counteract and use the Master Sergeant's force and momentum against him.🤔

The biggest problem with the tai chi fight is that although the chairman was more skilled and experienced, his style was ill suited to take down Scott. The style had too much wasted flowing motion as opposed to the straightforward karate and was also less powerful as it relied more on force redirection and careful timing. Scott is also a tank. Taking him down required not only finesse put power too, or at least pinpointed force. Ip Man was better suited because his wing chun was more adaptable to counter Scott and to deliver powerful strikes as well.

He trained, learned, sparred, etc from age 5 in 1976 through 2002...He fought and only lost 1 fight and that was by decision, so he could have easily won that fight too...It takes at least 2.5 years to earn a legit black belt, but in shorin ryu, it takes 4 to 6 years to earn a first degree black belt....Since he has a 3rd degree, it took him from 12 years to 18 years just to achieve his 3rd...More proof, Its an EXTREMELY legit, overely effective, violent form of karate/fighting style...Some say, it's too dangerous ?? !! The very first thing that isshinryu karate practitioner said to me was, it's NUTS your friend does shorin ryu...NUTS...Food for thought

The best about the final scene is that it shows all sides of Kung Fu : Master Wan’s Taichi represents a regime and Chinese belief in mercy, let-go so although Master WAN’s skill is excellent but could never hurt Barton, none of his attacks is meant to land fatal blow Whereas Ip Man’s Wing Chun at first also showcase that aspect but towards the end his hits out with the most lethal techniques of Wing Chun his already injured left arm is hurt badly by Barton’s kicks and at the final 3 exchanges, his palm was twisted to extreme pain by Barton and Ip Man finally had nothing but decided to attack with the “low blow” , “joint break” and “most lethal of all the “throat lunge’ which are in normally circumstances discouraged and prohibited in Kung Fu etiquette. IMO these shouldn’t have been seen as foul play as Barton himself said “no rules” and this also particularly showcases to audience how lethal Kung Fu can be meant to be

IF you look at the other movies as well, Ip always threatened the throat strike, but never used it against anyone up till now because no one pushed him far enough, the closest oddly enough was Mike Tyson, where he went for a low blow but stopped short when the timer went. IT stands as the only match he truly ever took a draw. In Ip man 2 he did draw against a MAster, but said Master then was killed by the boxer which Ip went on to beat.
