L-Sight - Honda Fit engine in an Insight

Stuff like this is why I love this channel. You guys can just make anything work. I just got rid of my 2018 Type R for a more economic 2020 CR-V, but picked up a bone stock 2003 EP3 SiR (Canada, eh...) in the process a couple weeks ago for some fun next year. I watched your 5 bolt/K24EP3 swap and was hooked on everything you guys have to offer. Currently collecting the RSX Type S pieces for the 5 bolt. The K24A2 will definitely be a consideration down the road too. Cheers. :)

Would you ever consider swapping the new turbocharged 1.5 liter into the Insight? I don't even want to think about the K20C1. Everyday I get online to check if someone has a video of a 90's Honda with the Type R swap driving.

Every night when an engine is cooling down the engine cavity collects condensation . It all have to do with the humidity in the air . That is why on some cold days when you start and run the engine there is steam coming from you exhaust . It also drip water out of the exhaust every time you run the engine in wet climates . Not so much in dry climates . So you engine oil is almost contaminated every day . Water does break down oil when the oil is moving but just setting in the oil pan no . What breaks down the oil is several factors and conditions . 1 Cold to heat and back to cold engine . The movement of oil and the movement of the engine parts inside the block and heads . Oil just setting cold not so much . But this guy is right never ever wait until the oil gets dirty or until it reaches it's life span . I change my oil every 3,000 miles and I do use Mobile 1 syn . . I also use Wixs filters .

I owned a 2003 civic LX manual non-vtec 1.7l 115hp 4-door weighing 2400lbs for a few years. It usually got 42mpg, but if I hypermiled (and I almost always did), it regularly got 48mpg. I replaced all the bulbs with led's, installed lightweight rims and eco tires, and ran the engine on pure synthetic oil with synthetic lucas oil stabilizer. It's not really that impressive to get 45+ mpg out of this insight with the engine conversion. I knew a guy that regularly got 78-82mpg out of his and it was stock. You should have just replaced the tired 3cyl with another and maybe turbocharged it with an old td04 or vf11 subaru turbo and run it at 5psi. Then the car could essentially act stock 99% of the time, but when you put your foot down get an extra boost with like 5psi from the turbo, and you wouldn't need to worry about detonation. I can see the appeal of a swap like this, but it's way too much effort and is really more of a downgrade/side-grade than an upgrade.

Supraman1987 We’ve Turbo charge more stock Insights than anyone. We’ve driven both. If you drove this car you’d understand. It’s better in every way and doesn’t require any hybrid pack and runs on 87oct.

Whats the gearing like on it? The fit / jazz in top gear runs around 3500rpm at 70mph which is far too much RPM even for a fit, which compared to the insight has the aerodynamics of a shed.

IMA means "INTEGRATED" motor assist. As in part of the original engine. It's like a flywheel that's also an electric motor. It's bye bye. Wonder if someone could adopt one if those Chrysler E torque systems to add assist to a swap. That would be crazy cool

Carl Loftin Actually Yes. The customer discovered auto cross and loves the car. He has since put stickier tires on it and races it and daily drives it. I would like to build one for my self ( the plan with the green one I had ) but my time is so limited.

My car and I'm lovin' it. No problems with anything. Drove a new Miata RF, nice car. Drove home in the Lsight and like it better, just fits me. Autocrossing has been fun, I'm definitely the limiting factor in the times but getting better. Next mod is a sway bar for the rear to help with the turn in. Tail of the Dragon last summer was a blast, going to do some HPDE events in the spring.

I like what you are doing! This chassis is still way cool for any motor swaps out there. I hear that soon there will be a l/ion battery swap available that will double the horspower available from the battery. Also, I'm in for an all electric swap of sorts. That the Tesla is the only modern car to best the aerodynamic slippery co efficient of drag, according to one source, and happens to be stupid fast...I'm a petrol head but this has to be looked at. That price tag though is scary. The insight is huge bang for the buck.

Problem is for a L/ION battery is that the input shaft of the transmission and CV joints are not designed for the instant torque of a higher power IMA. I'm pretty careful about the torque in 1st gear with the Fit engine/trans as is.

Base model RSX motor would have been a better option since there was already a platform set forth from prior k sight project.

That was not the plan for this one, The customer wanted to keep the car with pretty good gas mileage and a little more pep. I think we pulled it off as he's very happy.

mmm. Let me see. The motor is easy to find with low miles, it lighter, it gets better MPG, the layout looks correct, it's easier to fid, the generation is correct, it's cheaper, it's newer technology, the year is correct or newer so it's OBD compliant . That's all I can think of right now ;)

I considered building an S2000 Insight for the our SEMA build, but decided on the AWD K-Sight. We could totally do it , no problem. The tunnel would need to be rebuilt and someone to rebuild the dash etc.

L15A1 doesn't have lean burn, gearing is super short or mileage could be even better.

Definition of retarded. It's a piece of history, incredibly rare, and of the most amazingly engineered cars in the world. It was the most aerodynamic until the Tesla S which doesn't have an ICE to cool so it doesn't really count, STILL the best mpg of any car in America. Very rigid, ultralight, all-aluminum chassis. Anyone who thinks it's a turd knows jack sh*t about cars.
