Hi, I really like where you are going with your concept. However I do have concerns as to the spare 40" wheel and tire mount location. If you consider the weight of the spare and the height the average person would not be able to lift or handle it. Assisted lift arm would somehow need to be implemented. I would also increase the tire size to minimum 44" Given the bulk size of the vehicle. Not telling you what to do..merely suggesting.
@BuilderCreator3 жыл бұрын
Spare retrieval is a great idea. We have gone with 40" max as our design limit as tires over that start to get extremely expensive, especially when you factor in wheels and gear changes etc.

@oikkuoek3 жыл бұрын
Very glad to see you dropped the amphibious part from the design name. There are still problems.. Ground clearance and overhangs to be more precise. A rule of thumb for off road vehicles is, you can't build an overhang longer than the radius of the tyre, and even then the angle from the rubber surface has to be very steep. It will grab, and get the vehicle stuck. And anything below the axle line, works as an ancor on soft surface. To get an off road vehicle to climb over anything; creeks, ditches, rocks, tree tunks, bad condition back roads, any overhang over the wheel is going to cause issues. So where the rim stops, should the body stop also. This way the rubber has the most surface to grab onto, and climb over obstacles.
@psibitful23 жыл бұрын
Looks like the wheel base could indeed be lengthened. This may add significant complexity, but consider doubling up on the back axle. The sharply chopped body projections that run along the sides beg for a more aerodynamic termination. They add a lot of interest, but maybe taper or chamfer them back into the main body.
@oikkuoek3 жыл бұрын
@@psibitful2 Even with double axles, that design will get stuck on a river bank in any steep (natural) crossing. The nose is too long and hanging low.
@psibitful23 жыл бұрын
@@oikkuoek Right, what I meant is the wheel base should be made longer at the expense of the overhangs.
@oikkuoek3 жыл бұрын
@@psibitful2 Not a bad idea, but there is also a limit on the wheelbase. When climing up a river bank, if the wheelbase is too long, the vehicle gets stuck by it's belly. This can be redeemed by adding more ground clearance, but then the mass centre lifts also making the vehicle top heavy and unstable. Making a working Off-Road vehicle, the balance between these factors has very small margin.
@psibitful23 жыл бұрын
@@oikkuoek Sure, the potential of getting stuck increases if the author goes for the comfort of an XL wheelbase. It's likely that the goal here is safely getting to the next RV park using reasonable roads. This truck should be fantastic for all of that.

Looks interesting, although not really my thing. You mentioned using polycarbonate (PC) for the side bubbles. It's definitely strong, but it's certainly not scratch resistant. It's used in motorsport, but the reason it's not road legal for windscreens is that it scratches up a treat. One drive in the wet with a dusty windscreen would render it pretty much opaque. In motorsport, the teams are usually fastidious about cleaning the screens, so when they do need to use wipers, they're less likely to be swiping dust across the screen. It's also not legal (in the UK at least) for side windows, because you need to be able to break it in an emergency, which is something you may need to consider. For scratch resistance, you may be able to use a clear wrap to function like a screen protector on a phone. Some motorsport formulae use tear-off windscreen covers, a bit like tear-off strips for motorcycle visors, so the technology is available. Note that I'm not suggesting you shouldn't use PC, just tempering your expectations; it's properties are often wildly overstated. You may feel that you can live with a few scratches from trees, and you may not need to be able to break it in emergency. If you're planning on vacuum forming it yourself, you may want to reach out to the DarkAero project. They've already been through a lot of the pain getting good results for their cockpit canopy. On the subject of tempering expectations, I remember Mythbusters, and how they used PC for their blast shields "because it's virtually indestructible". Years later, they tested it, and it was nowhere near blast proof, and they'd been placing their trust in it for their safety all those years. I think Adam Savage described it as a sobering experience.

What are the most common issues that many of today’s RVs have particularly when using them off road is a high center of gravity. In fact some of these vehicles particularly truck campers flip over quite often on the highways. I would certainly be concerned with a height on this based on that model.
@BuilderCreator2 жыл бұрын
height is not necessarily the downfall of the center of gravity issue. Since locating most of the mass low is the solution, that is were I am focusing my efforts; all aluminum and light weight composites above the floor line.
@thereefaholic2 жыл бұрын
That’s true but people notoriously start filling up their recreational vehicles with things and those things raise the center of gravity. Yes I would imagine if you keep all of your storage below the waterline it wouldn’t be an issue.
@divyanshsrivastava73123 жыл бұрын
sir, how are you thinking of implementing electronics like switching to the aqueous mode and extending the section for camping mode, and will that even be an issue? Secondly is the mohawk just for aesthetics or does it have any specific purpose? Thank you... it would be awesome to see this new build take shape 😊👍
@BuilderCreator3 жыл бұрын
There will be hydraulics on board that can be used for extending flotation tanks and wall lifts. Investigating the use of hydraulics for water propulsion in the stern drive as well. The mohawk lowers the perceived roof height while still allowing teller passengers head height. It will also stiffen what would other wise be a large flat roof that would need ribs or other heavy structural members to span the distance. Breaks up the boxy look as well.

@BuilderCreator2 жыл бұрын
Propeller (water) speeds need to be much higher than auto drive shaft speeds and "gearing back up" would be an awful lot of frictional loss.
@whatyoudo97732 жыл бұрын
@@BuilderCreator I see that makes sense, not sure what gearing back up means but I assume running it through a multiplier would also create mucho drag, still seems a clever design if it was possible.

Hello. I follow your channel and I'm a big fan of yours. But I have been following the Leviathan project and one point worries me. The vehicle has a huge problem. It is too tall for the width of the front and rear axles shown in addition to its short wheelbase. The base is smaller than the height and width. This makes it unstable for both urban and off-road environments. For use on land and uneven floors, it certainly wouldn't support 15 degrees of inclination, which is too little.
@BuilderCreator2 жыл бұрын
It is not a matter of size, but of mass. I am going to great effort and expense to keep the weight (center of gravity) low. The upper structure is all aluminum or foam core composites. Likely half the weight of a traditional motor home. We will get to see what capabilities it has, I shouldn't think it can't attack places that the heavy Man or Unimog overlanders traverse and at a fourth their weight maybe some they can't.
