I love this side of the Stones. The bluesy Stones are just immaculate. Thank you to our patron Kathy G for "Monkey Man" and I threw in the title track just sniffs and diggles. I'm glad I did but... "Monkey Man" was something special. A feat worthy of the monkey king (sorry inside joke lol)

Keith plays all the guitars on Let It Bleed and Monkey Man! He played all guitars on the album except an acoustic slide guitar overdub by Taylor on Country Honk and some rhythm guitar on Live With Me. Keith played all the slide guitar on the album too. The album was about complete when Taylor joined. Recording started in 68 and finished late 69

That opening vibraphone on "Monkey Man" just slays. Not a trifle too Satanic. This is the last album with Brian. The cover shows we used to stack albums to play, one after the other.

First time I heard “Let It Bleed” was Halloween 1981 when The Stones played it at the Cotton Bowl. I was 16. Jimmie Vaughan’s Fabulous Thunderbirds and ZZ TOP opened. I’ve always loved “Monkey Man”. Can you imagine this song, “Angie”, “Sympathy For The Devil”, “She’s a Rainbow”, or “Waiting On a Friend” without Nicky Hopkins?

Monkey Man is such a great song. It always reminds me of a friend who is no longer with us. He loved this song & we were camping back in the day, trippin' our brains out & Monkey Man came on & he was just into so much, singing & dancing to it. It's a really great memory that Monkey Man always brings back. So thank you Lee & Kathy

Both brilliant tunes, this is probably my fave Stones album. Yep, you got the blues Stones thing right. They were basically a London based blues cover band before Mick and Keith locked them in the kitchen and told them they weren't coming out until they'd written their own track. They came out with 'The Last Time' and the rest is history.

I remember listening to this song as a 14 year old I think we were with my best friend in the back bedroom at my parent’s house. We had it turned up all the way like we did during that phase. And I remember us just screaming “I’m MF monkey!”. I have no idea what my poor mother was thinking. 😬 When I get a little too grouchy Grandma Waspy, I have to remember these moments when we were just..out there.

Keith played all of the electric guitars on these songs and most of the songs on the album. Mick Taylor had just joined, and he only appeared on Country Honk and Live with Me (highly recommend especially with Keith on bass). Taylor would become a driving force on their next album Sticky Fingers. You want a great Taylor solo, try Sway on Sticky Fingers.

I don't see anything from Exile, which is a shame but hopefully soon remedied. There are so many tracks that are transcendent. My personal favorite is "Let It Loose", Mick at his most bluesy and soulful and a group of backup singers I want to go polygamist with. So many other songs that would top the charts of best Stones songs including, "Sweet Virginia" and "Lovin Cup". I could go on to include the entire two disc album but I'm sure others will fill you in.

Lee -- one of my most triumphant Phish moments was when out of nowhere they busted out Monkey Man to close Set 1. The first little piano roll over that bassline sent a wave of sonic energy through a crowd of over 50,000 fully switched on, fully tuned in phans. SuperBall Festival, Watkins Glen NY July 2011. #1) "Sticky Fingers", Great blues guitar with Mick T and Keith, a haunting druggy-spooky feel to the final songs, but Album ends on high final note. #2) "Goat's Head Soup", Most people don't rate this one high enough. I just love the spooky-blues mood of this Album. #3) "Get Yer Ya Yas Out", One of the best LIVE albums ever. The "Sympathy" and "Rambler" are the best Stones recordings ever. #4 "Let It Bleed", as demonstrated right now, just an awesome album. Agree, love that instrumental on "Monkey Man".

Goats Head Soup is excellent, The Stones go R&B and Funk. It's Only Rock N Roll album is great as well, The Stones start exploring Protopunk and there's a great mix of songs. I believe the song "If You Really Want to be My Friend" was written by Taylor about the band, Richards specifically. "Time Waits for No One" is one of Taylor's greatest performances. That album is the one that made Taylor leave The Stones because he wasn't given writing credits among many other reasons.

Got Live If You Want It - 1966 was a great album. Not the greatest production because of technology of the time, but a great collection of their mid 60’s work.
@36karpatoruski
@36karpatoruski 3 күн бұрын
Great technology was certainly available at the time, but not used very much at all on rock music. I have classical music from the mid- late fifties that is jaw dropping, and equal to anything afterward. But the effort, top recording engineers, and best microphones and mixers were not used in Rock until later. And even then, not used throughout the genre. Then, the loudness wars arrived in the late 80’s and got worse and worse through the 90’s and beyond so today, some recordings are so compressed and clipped into distortion, they are worse than mid 60’s recordings, but not for the same reasons.
