So I thought we should start working through the songs we haven't touched yet.... So here we are with the FIRST YES SONG EVER on an official record. Track one and track three. And they feel like the flow together perfectly. Chris and Peter own the first track and then Jon absolutely steals the show in the second.

I've come to describe Jon Anderson's voice as "the most _fragile sounding_ lead singer's voice in the Rock genre"

Back in the day before Fragile, Yesterday And Today was my favorite Yes song. It sounded familiar to me too, even though I knew I never heard it before. Great reaction Lee. You really should do Something's Coming. It was a B side of a single that should have been on the album.

"Looking Around" is a great catchy song. Also, "Sweet Dreams" from the Time and a Word album.

The first two albums are among my favorite YES. They are so enjoyable to just put on and listen all the way through. Different than the later prog but solid tunes. I've been waiting for you to get to Harold Land. Such a sentimental but sad anti war story set through one character doing his duty. Largely about those who came back. A tragedy of what should be the happy ending. It like most of the album, short but powerful. If it is just the two you have left, maybe finish as this with 2 in 1.

When Jon first met Chris in a bar he worked, Chris was already in a band with Peter called Mabel Greer's Toy Shop. SWEETNESS was the first song the two wrote together that same day. This album clearly set the tone and personality to where the band was headed. Even then they were unique, giving us something original and different from what other bands were doing at the time! Yet there is still that wonderful late 60's vibe that I love so well. SURVIVAL is my favorite & the first song I remember hearing and loving from this album

Jon & Chris were influenced by The Association, Crosby Stills, Nash & Young and The Beach Boys with vocals arrangements and harmonies. And these harmonies sound like those bands and a little Beatles influence as well. This is a really good album to have.

Strictly speaking, Jon Anderson joined the existing band called Mabel Greer's Toyshop, but after the drummer left and was replaced by Bill Bruford, they decided to simplify the name. Peter Banks suggested 'Yes', and the rest is history.

The early Yes.⭐️ “…makes us both happy…” Jon, one of the sweetest voices in the world, singing such a sweet affectionate song that he wrote. It comes from the young Jon Anderson’s blissful heart… What a childlike logo! I think Jon’s song and title, Yesterday And Today may be an allusion to the Beatles Yesterday And Today album (originally with the Butcher cover) that was released in 1966… L33’s labor of love 🙏❤️

I know I'm in the minority but my favorite Yes album is their second-Time And A Word. Bought it when it was new 'n it still resonates. I've followed Yes since I took a chance buyin' their first album-a wise decision as it turned out. First saw them live in 1971 when they opened for Jethro Tull. Followed their career o'er the decades. But as much as I love most o' their albums Time And A Word still stands the test o' time. Check it out.

"Beyond And Before" has a 60's psych vibe that shows up on the first album in places. It's definitely the main bridge to Chris Squire and Peter Banks' pre-Yes groups The Syn and Mabel Greer's Toyshop. The MGT version is floating around on YT if you want to hear what it evolved out of. But Chris is SO out front on it, you can tell he was on a f*cking mission to elevate the bass to the same status as the guitar -- as in Jimi Hendrix levels of guitar god prowess. But I remember discovering this album in the early 80's, and I was trying to get every guitar player I knew to learn it but they were all "Yes is haaaard!" 😄 If you feel like you've heard the arpeggios on "Yesterday and Today" before, it's because it was very influenced by The Association/Fifth Dimension, vocal groups that Jon was heavily channeling at the time.
