You missed the joke, since it gives the ability to throw rocks when you spawn with that weapon. Have you ever seen a survivor jump around like a hunter with a pistol when shooting? Kinda acts like that.

for the longest time, i used to think the machete and katana were the best melee, but that was mainly because i liked how fast the swing speed was, and it feels great to mow down a hallway of zombies with, like the last area of dark carnival chapter 4 or the passing chapter 2. but now i realize that the fire axe takes the cake. i feel so powerful when using the axe in hordes

Against Witches (which is something very useful on harder difficulties or modded servers), the Axe sucks, but it's pretty good otherwise. I don't like having to switch to another weapon to melee the Tank or Witch faster, so I still prefer the Katana over it due to its faster swings. The machete's registration makes it almost as bad as a tonfa or pitchfork though, at least to me.

The machete and knife are still my favorites when it comes to gauntlet events, but nothing beats the fire axe when holding out and defending.

The Katana and the Machete don't have any diagonal attacks. The Katana is also one of the worse melee weapons for hit registration, because the right side of the attack will randomly _not_ cast hitrays. It also very commonly does the annoying thing where you hear an impact and see blood, but don't actually land the hit. The reason people refer to the nightstick as "tonfa" is because that's how it's referred to in the game files.

3:04 Fun fact, this is actually because whenever you kill a common with a blunt melee weapon, it plays a death animation, however, sharp melee weapons were also originally gonna make commons play this death animation, but due to a typo, it never does, they just instantly ragdoll

The worst part is the way the baton is held. Holding it the way a tonfa would be would turn it into an extension of your arm's, using your own arm's length so you'd always know its limits and extent. But no, they made it terrible.

3:07 that was a mistake from valve, it was a typo that made the sharp melees do this, wanst on pourpose. theres even a mod that fixes that and adds the original impact animations, act_slash fix also, the baseball bat appears on every campaign, it was originally a pre-order exclusive, but after the passing update (or buying on xbox case) everyone could got it, if the host lobby had it, everyone could get it at the start of each chapter.

Funny thing is it even got downplayed kinda, it's described as slow but it's among the faster melee weapons. So it's both accurate and fast, only melee weapon with that trait. But hey, at least it's still in S tier

Honestly if they want to make the pitchfork viable they should make it swing normally but make it thrust if you press middle click. Maybe it gets more range if you middle click so there is a reason to use it? Blunt weapons should add the shred modifier on it so they're at least more reliable when dealing with crowds, but also should have a unique use against some special infected. Maybe be able to hit spitter's projectile?

Something about the Machete that makes me prefer it over the Axe for certain maps. For example I'd prefer the Axe in the Dead Air and Dark Carnival finale where zombies are likely to surround because of how open everything is. But I'd prefer the Machete for narrow space in The Parish finale where the point is to push forward and keep running or No Mercy's finale where you basically camp on top of the roofs and popping in and out of the radio room. Machete is good for specific instances if you're running and gunning and have really good aim and reaction time, I'll keep your momentum going, Axe is less punishing and good for open areas where you can get surrounded and its also better if you're going in to save someone who's in a bad spot and getting surrounded. I don't use the knife because it does feel weird being in the game

The pitchforks issue is it feels like it was designed for a different melee system. It has a single target swing which is pointless because the range and damage of every melee is the same. The only real niche is meleeing hunters midair but in you average game who is actually doing that lol

The pitchfork's main purpose was to use the vertical gore on kills, which no other melee weapon utilized. Like any other weak weapon (smg, pump shotgun, m16, dual pistols, etc.) its use is for aesthetics, not for meta.

although nobody asked and nobody cares, i use melee weapons based off what i turned them into via mods. fireaxe is king dedede's hammer, so basically never gets used since it is the most boring melee change (unlike what i turned the katana, knife, pitchfork, or "tonfa" into). Baton was hardest to find a mod for because many called it a "tonfa" in the workshop.

​@@skinnybuggo baseball bat is the monado. cricket bat is a salmon. crowbar is inflatable mallet. frying pan became strapon wolverine claws or something. golf club is blue lightsaber. guitar is the HHHH from tf2. katana is genji's katana. machete is keyblade. "wrs white scythe" is the pitchfork. "evies toothache cone" is the shovel. knife is a yellow flower. nightstick/tonfa is the plushie snake seen in Dark Carnival. chainsaw has no interesting model mods so it is just gold. some of these i installed years ago, others i just found last year which have the (imo) better mod changes. the claws and the snake are my current favorites.mdont know the origins of the pitchfork and shovel mods, but they are interesting

i tried the shovel and with using swapping tactic after a hit or maybe shoving(after swapping) to remain safe, i would say the shovel is quite good. At least it is reliable and you know how it will hit, unlike the other melees where you forget and somehow it does a weird attack What do you think of the shovel if you would use it for a certain amount of time? The chainsaw is not that bad a weapon, remember that it does enough to damage to insta kill infected EVERY SECOND and not every pull of the trigger like with the other melee weapons. So it great for mowing down hordes and in theory if you can somehow pull it off, tear apart a Tank.
