@@kpyng Grunge is pretty heavily influenced by metal actually, it’s not a subgenre of any one thing because it’s not really a well defined genre. Black Sabbath and The Melvins in particular were influential for grunge. L7’s biggest influences are probably the Ramones, Joan Jett (both Runaways and solo), Frightwig, Motörhead, and a bunch of LA punk bands.

What a great find! I wish you had footage of the Fugazi set that came after this! It was remarkable that the same crowd that was so actively stage diving during L7 didn't do that during Fugazi, who didn't like that stuff.

L7 was usually cool with that. One time Donita literally threw a guy off stage though. Either she was blackout drunk or he did something fucked up.

L7 is one of all time favorite bands but they’re far from the only great all-female rock band. Just among their contemporaries, you had 7 Year Bitch, Lunachicks and Babes In Toyland. And of course the Runaways, Girlschool and Fanny from earlier.
