If I remember correctly, a standard M14 by 1.50 oil drain plug will also cap that off. I don't put any stock into oil getting onto the Pistons having any reason to cause oil loss, the biggest problem with oil loss in that vein is the fact that I have seen piston rings with a gap of up to point zero three zero. Which is massively large for that engine. And that was on the 5.3 standard Rings. There's no excuse for that big of a ring Gap. Another mod you can do on those is if you take and dimple the top of that oil pressure relief down some, you can raise the effective oil pressure that that oil relief valve operates at.

I just came across your video. My brother has the 07 l92. Identical situation. He has rebuilt the thing from top to bottom (SEVERAL TIMES). Cam(2),Lifters(3 sets),high pressure/volume oil pump and changed out the spring), all seals,gaskets,and o-rings. He has gone to thicker oil. He has done everything he knows of and has been told to change. Oil pressure is great upon start-up. Then it drops to 8-9 lbs. I believe he has also installed that plug. Total times pulling the engine =8. Total invested =way too much. All aftermarket parts from Texas Speed and equivalent. We are at our wits end.

Sounds like it’s time for a full tear down and inspection. You have something major that is causing a massive pressure drop.

Wow my 07 ext has 200k miles and runs like a champ, thinking of rebuilding it but $$$ can’t imagine rebuilding it many times

Cam bearings are the real issue when all other options don't fix the situation. Believe you can check out the Durabond chp-25 cam bearings. Requires the cam and heads to come out, so best to have the motor out of the vehicle for the job to swap them. They're updated too at .775" width I believe to better handle the cam.

I’ve got a 08 L92 non afm/dod . I am second owner has 172k on it was a fleet vehicle before me and have all records of every oil change since it was new. Had low oil pressure when I bought it at 154k. 5 psi at hot idle 20 psi at highway speed. So far I’ve had the oil pressure sensor replaced no help. Then replaced oil pump, pickup tube o ring, got me to 8 psi hot idle and 23 psi highway speed. Currently I’m replacing the gaskets and orings for the oil ports under the valley cover that’s under the intake manifold. If that don’t help idk what else it could be other than that relieve valve above the oil filter. I wouldn’t thing the bearings in this engine would be that worn already. It runs good and no chatter at startup at all. 🤦🏻‍♂️

By the way I’m running 40 weight oil instead of 30 weight since right after I bought the vehicle with 154k miles to help raise oil pressure. I swapped out the Amsoil oil filter to an pf63 ac delco filter and gained about 12 psi Planning to drop oil pan and get rid of that oil relief valve here soon. Will update

I put an ac delco oil filter on and it gained me almost 10 psi across the board. So I’m letting it go for now till I get extra time to do it

There's a shield below the piston, so shouldn't be an issue getting oil shot from release valve. Fixed the o- ring and replaced my pressure valve with a m14x1.50 oil plug amd lightred locktite. Fixed my pressure from hot 18psi idle to 30 and runs much better. Any issues, I'll check back later.

@henderj92 OK, so I found hot idle has risen only about a few psi on hot idle off highway speeds. Still better than with a relief valve. Also cruising oil pressure goes to 45 psi average which is generally no higher than 40 psi. Issues I run into is cold psi and think my melling hv is pushing pressure too high in cold cruising rpms. My melling pump has the highest pressure spring in it which works fine with the relief valve, but pressure when cold goes to nearly 80psi! I plan to drop the pan and pull the high pressure spring and replace with possibly a standard spring in the melling pump to reduce the cold cruising psi levels. I also trigger the stabilitrack when this happens, but not when hot with psi reduced to about 45 psi. Highly recommend the melling high volume pump, but whatever psi at hot idle will not change with whatever pressure spring you put in it. The pressure spring only affects cruising psi.

I have a 6.2 that I just put a stage 2 cam in and basically rebuilt the top end . before the swap oil pressure was fine. Maybe this is the cause of my oil pressure dropping after running for a little, and I have a high pressure oil pump.

You prime the oil pump properly? A melling high volume pump #365, I believe, will help raise some psi. Stage 2 cam may also require some additional pressure. Your cam work with vvt? You delete vvt and retune?

Have a 2010 camaro ss replaced oil pump ,sensor and blocked off relieve pressure in pan still low oil pressure keep getting p0521 code

How many miles? You have a slightly off idle? It'd check the vvt solenoid and/or vvt valve in the cam. Both can be replaced without removing the timing cover. All else fails, cam bearings are too worn.

Absolutely. The oil relief valve and oil pick up tube o ring is a common issue along with the sensor failing. The one other area that will cause a dramatic drop in oil pressure is the lifters but the oil relief and o ring are probably the most common.

Physical remove the dod or electronically? Either way it's not very necessary. It helps restore lost pressure at cruising speeds, but doesn't really effect hot idle psi. The valve opens at 45psi and bypasses unfiltered oil reducing pressure. Oil pressure is much more noticeable at cold psi when plugged.

@JoseRodriguez-jl5ih I generally believe it won't hurt the engine. Try not to use an aftermarket high volume/pressure pump with it though as it stresses the afm.

@JoseRodriguez-jl5ih You need to physically remove the afm and DOD for optimal results. If your suffering low psi, I'd check the pickup tube ring and plugged up oil sensor port. Plugging the bypass helps cruising psi, but doesn't help much with hot idle after highway use. Your engine should be fine plugging the bypass with a stock oil pump.

Originally it was dropping to about 8-10psi when hot at idle. After it wouldn’t drop below about 20 on very hot days or after towing. I also noticed slightly higher pressure while cruising and the engine just seemed “happier” maybe the extra pressure helped the cam phaser move easier.
