Viewers tuned in for entertainment, but also for instruction and insight.
The series aired successively over the CBS, ABC, and NBC networks, consistently attracted 16 million viewers to each episode, and won more than 65 awards, including nine Emmys and two Peabody awards.

The translation is embarrassing. English and Puccini don't mix. Why not stick to italian? The singers were very good. I felt sorry for them having to sing that doggeral.
