I say.... Bravo... For those who would prefer to preserve performances from 1945-1960 as superior to this I would like you to keep in mind that these two singers actually sing the written dynamics of the score, they look glamorous (physically fit, height/weight proportionate) without being Hollywood plastic. No high notes (written by Puccini) are transposed and the level of acting is lunar miles away far superior from icons of the NY Met in the 1950s. Opera is evolving and the expectations have become higher. If this isn't your cup of tea stay home and listen to your record collection

In 2021 indeed! During the pandemic...without public in the hall, no crowding on stage in act 2 (a waiter with mask!) ..no applauses, but a remarkable show with good singers. And the wonderful Jonas was on stage, who hasn't sung LA BOHÈME since 2012.

@@sicalipto3911 pero no todo en Wagner es dramático, aquí Kaufmann tiene todos los acentos necesarios para lograr un Rodolfo creíble sin nunca encontrar la conexión con el estilo de Puccini en mi opinión, pero Sorensen tiene una técnica muy definida que su Mimi parece Isolde, pero los dos están muy preocupados con mandar la voz lo más lejos posible pues es lo que hoy en opera es más importante.

@@jadalmatamoros6368 precisamente creo que el encanto del buen canto lírico es escuchar al interprete en toda su composición. encasillar a un cantante a un repertorio porque nos suene bien al oído y desestimarlo en otras obras es simplemente una simplificación que no beneficia los sentidos. Obviamente no vamos a pretender que Kaufmann cante Almaviva, pero Rodolfo ha sido por años un título que lo destacó y hoy, un cantante más aplomado, con un estilo propio, en la plenitud de sus recursos, puede darse el lujo de proponer un Rodolfo suyo que no se aparta de Verdi, de Bizet a Puccini, no solo ser una gran voz sino un cantante tan polifacético como admirable. Pareciera que nos privamos de admirar los cantantes en su cenit, solo interesa esperar su declive para objetarlos o su muerte para levantarles monumentos.

I’m so glad Jonas followed Puccini’s score and took the low note at the end. It is supposed to be a moonlit night of love, not two singers screaming a high-C, like Pav (who was otherwise wonderful in Boheme).
