why do my cactus look rough and lack vitality and growth, is volcanic rock a bad medium?

Maybe you need to get them more water.

@@ksaewa no, i often wash them with hose to keep mites off, and they feel heavy with water. its hard to get a good mix, everytime i repot the roots look unhappy.
