Adam is one of the only pianists who really knows how to present the piece as a whole story rather than individual sections with expressive and nuanced tempo changes. Although there are some pianists who share the same maturity as Adam to be okay with playing something slower and to be expressive with the tempo, Adam is easily the only one I've seen who really tells a story with what he's playing and it doesn't feel like dozens of tiny 5-10 second pieces separated by all of the ritardandos and accelerandos being used for expression by other pianists. I notice so many here commenting about how they appreciate Adam's willingness to not play it at warp speed, but tons of pianists do that, so I've never understood why people point it out. However, nobody seems to really connect the whole piece like Adam does.

I don’t understand people commenting on this being perfect tempo, a and other pianists are doing it bad since they play fast...... To evaluate the performance of a piece you need to understand the composer of the said piece. Liszt was more of ‘performer’ and a show off than of a soulful pianist. He gave utmost importance to personal looks, and the speed and difficulty of a piece. He was the one who popularised that pianists should sit sideways and show their face to the audience. So la Campanella, amongst many of his work, is defined on high speed too. Lisztomania was very real back then.
@johnrubensaragi41253 жыл бұрын
Pianists need to *show off* their own interpretation and tempo, though. Also, listeners have their own taste.

Ryan Dewberry La Campanella is ridiculously hard, but from your comment im assuming you already know that, but when played at the Allegretto Tempo and in 6/8 time which is what Liszt wrote then it is much harder than the Rhapsody. I can play both pieces, and La campanella is much harder than the Rhapsody, but both are very hard. Edit: He originally wrote Allegretto with 176 on a metronome, making it Vivacissimo which is even faster
