Kyllääää...one of the best finnish entries ever. Some say it does not reflect the finnish culture. Well, go to Canary Islands in Winter, watch the finnish travellers and you will understand this song perfectly. The closer to the flight back home, the more melancholic. ;-)

Those live orchestras really need to come back to the ESC. The conductor here is Ossi Runne in his final performance. He conducted all the Finnish entries to the ESC from 1966 until 1989.

@@beautifulflowersafterhours The rule has always been like this. Whoever is the conductor in the national final will also conduct in the Eurovision. This rule also applies in Sweden But in this case, it was the YLE producer who decided to let Donner conduct for Eurovision, not Sorsa. Runne wasnt offended by it since he knows Donner was the one who did the arrangement. And besides, mentioned above, he (Runne) is the Finland's Delegation Head and Radio Commentator besides Pohjanheimo In later Eurovisions to come until '89 (tho he conducted the national final in 1990, but it was Ahvenlahti who conducted for Eurovision since Runne retired already. But I have a feeling that everything was on playback, not live, in the '90 national final), he was the resident conductor.

I mean, I'm not sure if it's fair to call this old-fashioned for its time, since the song was literally performed over 30 years ago. And sure, the rhythm has aspects from other cultures, but at least 98% of the singing is done in Finnish (unlike today when it's often 100% English). I think this is in the top 5 of best Finnish entries of all time, although I was born at the start of the 2000s.
