The idea that a movie could tell a systematic clear storyline in more than just 1 scene was a relatively new idea at the time of this film's released, you are looking at one of the very first movies to tell a narrative story instead of just being a big joke or just being the events of only 1 or 2 scenes.

Ferdinand Zecca made a forty-minute movie about Jesus full three years earlier though. And Melies has been telling full clear storylines for a while already, and by 1906 de Chomon was working, Porter in the US is already making chase movies, etc. And Alice Guy made her own Jesus movie in 1906, actually! Long and with a clear coherent narrative and innovative in its own way. So idk if this Capellani effort was truly one of the first movies to tell a story. Seems more like it was a typical Pathe affair.
