Syrtos (Greek: Συρτός, also sirtos). Syrtos, along with its relative kalamatianos, are the most popular dances throughout Greece and are frequently danced by Greeks and various nationalities worldwide. They are very popular in social gatherings, weddings and festivals. Syrtos and kalamatianos are line dances, done with the dancers in a curving line holding hands, facing right.
Ikariotikos is a traditional dance and accompanying song originating in Ikaria a Greek island in the North Eastern Aegean Sea.
Saint Sophia Cathedral sponsored their 18th Annual L.A. Greek Festival, in Los Angeles, California on October 7, 8 & 9, 2016. This annual festival is a much anticipated tradition in the community!! Outstanding Entertainment was provided by Takis Kokotas on Vocals, Alekos G. on Bouzouki, Dimitri P. on Organ and Thanasi M. on Drums, also Peter L. ~ exceptional DJ during breaks of the band!! Additionally, Fr. John B. joined the band singing on various occasions, special singing guests: Korinna K.!! When Fr. John B. and Korinna K. started singing they blew me away with their outstanding music performance!!! The event consisted of Greek Live Music, Dancing, Church group Performances, Church guided tours; Awesome Greek gourmet Foods and Pastries which were ALL absolutely Delicious, also various Spirits were offered for adult guests, and all had to show a photo I.D. for proof of age!!! Event provided an Agora (marketplace), and various merchants displaying souvenirs, jewelry, clothing and art. Also they were kid’s games!! Overall an Outstanding event for an entire family to enjoy!!
A special “Thank You” to the Los Angeles Police Department for their Outstanding service in keeping us all safe!!
