Most of the crimes are committed by fare-evaders. The should be NO WAY you can get into the Metro system without paying your fare.

Lighting, cameras and tech are good. But what is needed is a police Force that actually uses constitutional force to arrest the criminals who will be held to account. Good will ambassadors can not accomplish that.

For starters make all passengers pay the fare...Stop making buses and trains a crime ridden free for all. Mayor Karen Bass said that "The immediate attention is to violent crime" not if riders are paying the fare. I guarantee you that all those involved in "Violent Crimes" did not pay the fare. You cannot separate the two.

Didn't see any "police presence" on the 720 Wilshire bus, day, night or most of all late at night when it is desperately needed. Coming home from work at 11 pm in a packed bus did see 3/4 of the passengers not paying and 4 homeless people sleeping taking up 2 seats

Police officers from the different jurisdiction should have a monitoring device while they go through the trains or buses. Swiping everyone TAP Card checking to see if people have a paid and active TAP Card. Otherwise, get ticketed or jailed for stealing.

Funny how you mention that. Here in Phoenix they put NFC Tags on both sides of a train car. The cop has to tag that NFC tag physically on both sides of the train car to log that they checked out the train. It’s a great system. LA metro needs this! It ensures the cops actually do their job and has a log to prove it.

I remember when the Police Chief of San Jose 35 years ago was lauded by the Media for being a progressive winner for his Broken Windows Theory of Law Enforcement. The Crime rate dropped because he was arresting more minor crimes like vandalism they said. No entry level crime passes. What happened to that???

It's basically a warzone everyday too , he shows his aunt and I videos of fist fights and kids setting off fireworks , in Sweden j think they banned private schools , to force the rich people to make the public schools better , and I agree with that approach , why should some kid in Beverly hills by default get a better education when we all pay taxes ? Just because they can lobby money and privatize education doesn't mean it's okay ! Morally and objectively wrong for society. Obviously, you don't see the correlation between the De-fund the police movement that this exact LA Board made, nor the fact that only 30% of Metro Crime is actually prosecuted by the DA. "YOU" are part of the PROBLEM.

If the MTA execs are so disgusted with the performance of the law enforcement agencies just fire them. It’s crazy to just complain about services you’re paying for, not be satisfied with but still keep them around. Oh, yeah you don’t have any other choices. 🤔🤔

It's a good start, and I'm glad they are addressing bus safety first. But fare gates at rail stations (along with attractive fencing surrounding the at-grade stations) that bar unsavory individuals from entering the stations and trains has been a need for decades now, and I have absolutely no idea why that can't be considered and implemented sooner. Even if it's not criminal activity, the presence of mentally ill homeless people on buses and trains has been a continuous issue, and it stops _so many_ citizens from using it, even when it's their only option. Many Angelenos are dependent on these services for essential travel (like me, meaning no vehicle) and it's frustrating when seemingly there are solutions to the problem, but just don't happen. It's no secret that Big Oil has a presence here (Chevron in El Segundo, and LA being a very car-dependent city by design) and I believe that they are a big reason why certain improvements, or extensions of rail lines get delayed or scrapped. The K Line to Torrance extension is a good example, with Chevron having local interest and NIMBY's being elected into local city positions, like in Lawndale. The D Line extension down Wilshire is another one, with idiots in Beverly Hills slowing shit down for legitimately no reason at all, raising costs of construction by billions. Also with the potential Sepulveda Pass subway, that would dig far underneath Bel Air and have two stations in Sherman Oaks, of course rich assholes in both places proclaiming it things like a lost cause to a liberal conspiracy somehow, one Sherman Oaks HOA guy even stating that "flying cars will be the standard" by the time construction is completed... and his dumbass will be dead, so who cares! It just feels like punishing impoverished people, and somehow benefiting a few in Big Oil when traffic is legendarily awful here and getting worse, and other equivalently large cities like Chicago and New York have legitimate systems in place when we could too. 🤷🏻‍♀

So metro had no answers, so law enforcement does not attend board meetings, so WTF? My issue is with security in the system. A lady was just killed at the studio city station. When are metro managers start taking safety seriously? There are always deranged people riding the metro without paying the fare. Something as simple as fare enforcement will take care of or at least reduce the level of mayhem going on. I take metro frequently but I will not let my family on the metro due to very real security concerns. I will repeat this until somebody at Metro pays attention: METRO: you are not a social services agency, YOU are a public transportation system, do not allow the junkies to ride for free, patrol inside the trains and buses. The smile and wave by law enforcement outside the stations is not working!

The Ambassadors can't do anything, I have witnessed them talking to each other and mess around on their phones. Just yesterday I watched a homeless druggie hop the pay gate then proceeded upstairs where he then jumped down onto the track and looked for cigarette butts. He did this in plain view of these Ambassadors, they did absolutely nothing about it.
