When I first saw this movie I found them to be more interesting than the main characters.

A nice subtle detail in the first few seconds of this vid is that is La Muerte rises from a grave with lots of candles and decoration indicating that the person who died is well-remembered by others. While Xibalba rises from a gave that's bare as bleached bones. Indicating that the poor soul who was put in that grave was forgotten and thus went to Xibalbas realm.

This movie takes place in the post Mexican Revolution era, that's why it has a lot of spaniard elements, like La Muerte being there to begin with. That's also why there's other stuff like bullfighting too.
