À XIVème Siècle Epulia (La Napoule) ne comptait que quelques maisons de pêcheurs. Après la destruction d'Avignonet (Minelle), la famille de Villeneuve qui en était propriétaire, fit construire à Epulia un nouveau château, et Epulia prit le nom de La Napoule. Les habitants d'Avignonet suivirent leurs châtelains et ainsi se constitua le village. En 1900, La Napoule compte 200 habitants. À 1918 les ruines du château sont achetées par un artiste américain, Henry Clews, peintre et sculpteur, qui fit entièrement reconstruire la demeure seigneuriale des Villeneuve. Depuis 1970, la commune s'appelle officiellement Mandelieu-La Napoule.

In the 14th Century Epulia (La Napoule) had only a few fishermen's houses. After the destruction of Avignonet (Minelle), the Villeneuve family who owned it, had a new castle built in Epulia, and Epulia took the name of La Napoule. The inhabitants of Avignonet followed their lords and thus the village was formed. In 1900, La Napoule had 200 inhabitants. In 1918 the ruins of the castle were bought by an American painter and sculptor Henry Clews, who completely rebuilt the castle of the Villeneuves. Since 1970, the town has been officially called Mandelieu-La Napoule.
