After more than 50 years this machine deserved a new one! Great job Hoon. Too bad that IMS or VST don't make precision baskets for our Breville 54mm. They would sell a ton of them if they did.

@@HoonsCoffee First I need to correct my error. The IMS basket I mentioned early is IMS Competizione, not precision . Model: B662Th26M Lotto: 013. Its I.D. is 55mm and O.D. is 56mm. I bought it from www.theespressoshop.co.uk 3-4 years ago for my Rossa PG espresso maker that uses 54mm basket, see here portaspresso.com

Showerhead doesn't help much according to multiple experts, however after puck inspection and flow monitoring I have a bit of channeling in same place, I think is a shower head defect, in those scenarios I'll do the upgrade, however for other la pavoni users this is my upgrade priority list: 1. Thermometer 2. Thermic dissipation, bong isolator/radiator. 3. Naked portafilter 4. boiler pressure gauge 5. airbuster + group pressure gauge 6. basket (ims or vst) 7. showerhead/puck screen Steam valve upgrades are excluded, as it isn't the coffee quality related, but single hole steam tip and B-push valve are great to have.

I asked a dealer about the benefits of upgrading showerheads and they straight up told me it's just for easier cleaning and looks, otherwise performance will be the same. More worth to upgrade basket and silicone gasket

The gasket for the basket needs to be round side up. Flat side down

I'm using IMS for my Bezzera Strega (our machines are long cousin if you look both companies up at Wikipedia). I can't feel any difference; which is fine. I bought it because the stock shower screen collecting coffee gunk quite often. For basket, I am using VST's. I can tell it's better than the stock. I don't know if VST sell the La Pavoni size though.

Original looks like more, but smaller holes, new screen has fewer, larger diameter openings in a different pattern. Would this create less resistance (pressure) for the water passing through ? And, how might it effect taste, flow and extraction? Anticipating your follow up video.

Looks like the stock shower screen flowed nicer to me lol. I'm installing my IMS right now, probably a mistake. How have you found it, any difference? Positive, or negative?

Actually, in their description, IMS didn't mention it'll improve the extraction of taste. They only claim that the holes were cut and not stamped. Therefore the diameter of the holes are uniform througout the thickness. And there are less possibility coffee ground stucked i. the holes and obstruct the flow. Also less cleaning required especially for pro barista brewing hundreds of shot everyday.

I changed to a Baristapro precision shower screen (looks the same as IMS), I don’t think we can evaluate without the pressure of a coffee puck and a bottomless portofilter

IMS is the manufacturer, Baristapro is the brand. I believe Baristapro is a brand owned by IMS but I'm not 100% sure. IMS makes products for other companies as well, if you'd like to have something manufactured they can do it. For example Slayer has their shower screens manufactured by IMS.

Have you tried the vst or IMs baskets on your barista Express? I have been thinking of trying one in the hopes coffee jams in the holes a bit less. Btw using an air compressor blowing through the bottom takes those fines out fast.
