Most people know and love the brass fanfare at the beginning but DAMN the woodwinds in this orchestra deserve all the praise for everything other than the first 2 minutes!! bravo

Dukas on another level... warm composition, so amazing the insane level of his orchestration... one of the best without doubt, a true legend!🎉

Fell in love with Dukas' music with his "Sorceror's Apprentice" when I was a kid. I played a sax solo for Texas UIL State competition entitled, "Alla Gitana" ("The Little Gypsy Girl"), & thought the chords were beautiful. My director told me Dukas didn't save much of his music (a la Brahms), being terribly self-critical, but some works survive. "La Peri" is one - - stunningly beautiful orchestral colors. Many recognize his "Fanfare," but fewer know the piece which follows. Dukas composed the "Fanfare" to let the noisy Parisian audiences know the Ballet was about to start., as the music begins so softly in the piece. Same with his Symphony in C, composed earlier, his Piano Sonata & a few overtures.

I've heard about this piece forever, but never heard it. It's incredible! Far, far better than Sorcerer's Apprentice. Magnificent! Thank you for uploading it!

Amazing piece, brilliantly orchestrated. Quite complex in its structure.
An odd piece that it is really two disparate pieces. The fanfare and the ballet don't seem related. Yet when I hear only the ballet portion, it seems incomplete. It must have something to do with the original commissioning of the work. The ballet music is a unique and exquisite masterpiece. Forget any dancing broomsticks, "La Peri" alone puts Dukas squarely among the immortals.
