Just played La Resistance with my wife, sister-in-law, and niece. They all liked it, they each won a game, and we're taking it on our next vacation.

Oh, that's awesome to hear! I'm glad you and they liked it. It's definitely a fun accessible game that deserves more attention. :)

Thanks, Mike for taking the time to take a look at La Resistance. You got everything right, but remember the Mulligan. If your roll is really bad, you can discard 1 die and reroll the other 6.
@ZillaBlitz Жыл бұрын
My pleasure, Mark! And ... D'oh! The Mulligan! I totally forgot about that, you're right! That would have been exactly the thing for my wife, great point. She rolled 7 dice with five 3s and two 1s or something like that. The mulligan would have saved her game. I'm a bit afraid to tell her this now, to be honest, but I will bring it up the next time we play. Thanks for the opportunity to review this, we had a lot of fun! :)

Your wife's 10 minute rule for board games could become a regular feature on the channel! I imagine many people would be interested if a game you feature passes that test. It's probably a good yardstick to whether my eldest might be interested.
@ZillaBlitz Жыл бұрын
Haha! That actually could be a cool feature of tabletop games, yes. She's not at all into wargames, so it would have to be other genres, but I could see that being pretty funny. Especially if I got her on some video. :)

I bought the game, and have played it solo a few times. At first I didn't care for it, but then I realized I was doing it wrong because I was discarding all three mission cards after each turn, instead of leaving the undefeated ones. That was huge! This adds a whole level of strategy in a multi-player setting. Do you grab glory points, accept that you are going to lose some recruits, and leave a mess for the next player? Not only are you considering how you can best deal with the cards, but you need to consider what you pass on to the next player. Can't wait for the next family game night! My wife, her sister, and niece, love games, but they can't be too complex, nor "wargamey." This one will raise their eye brows, but I hope they'll be willing to give it a try. As you mentioned, it's pretty abstract. It might be fun with an Orwellian "Animal Farm" theme. Ooh, I imagine a rival ant colonies themed version would be fun! If you're into fantasy, you could do competing parties in a dungeon. I could see this being a base set of play mats and dice, and then you just buy different decks. I think you might want slightly smaller dice that fit on the cards better. Each deck might have slightly different rules that work within the base theme.

Nice! I'm glad you like it, and that's cool that you tried it solo. I think it can definitely work solo, but yes, it sure feels like a family game. I hope your family enjoys it! And for sure, it'd be pretty easy to mod this to make versions for other realities. It'd be nice with some rule variants for each one too. Awesome!

Ah, a missed opportunity to name La Resistance members: Chevalier, Montage, Souffle, Dejavu .... It would have made the game an instant classic...

Another great video, ZB! I had the honor of playing this when it first came out at Origins a few years ago with Mark plus Grant and Alex from The Players Aid. We had a blast with it and I think this is one of Mark's most clever designs. By the way, I believe the photos on the resistance cell cards are done that way to look like a passport of that time, which is why it says "Passeport" on the back. Thanks!
@ZillaBlitz Жыл бұрын
Thanks! And I bet that was a fun group to play this game with for sure. On the images, that makes sense, yes. I think it was more the execution rather than the idea. But as my wife mentioned, it was a super minor thing to her. Thanks again, Hermann!

I like that this game plays so quickly, as this helps minimize the effect of a bad turn like your wife experienced. It sucks to spend 4 hours losing a game! On the other hand, if the game is quick with some luck involved...Ces't la vie!😅
@ZillaBlitz Жыл бұрын
Yes, it moves along quickly enough, and you won't be losing in the first couple of turns, either. Although it can be surprising how quickly you lose cell members. Especially if you get a tough 3 missions. :)

@@ZillaBlitz my family has requirements much like your wife, and if I spend too much time with my nose in the rulebook, the game gets shelved. Also, if I get the response, "Oh, it's a wargame." I know they won't be interested. I think La Resistance might pass both these tests. I'll risk it and buy a copy.

Hmmm, could play cut-throat and if YOU can survive a panzer attack, but the other players CAN'T, let it hit you and see if either of them can deal with it! And off the top of my head, I'd add a wrinkle of at the start of the turn when you draw an event, also draw another card that is the GROUP goal--it has to be removed by the end of the turn and you ALL suffer or gain if it is dealt with. So it would be easier with 5 players vs 3, AND you'd need someway of marking which conditions had been partially done by each player as they go until it could be fully removed...hmmm...
@ZillaBlitz Жыл бұрын
Good ideas, yes! I think the goal is a casual affair, but it'd be interesting to ramp up the decisions and complexity, as you mention.

Hi guys one question, for the option Duck and run you pay 2 glory points instead of loosing recruit.OK so far but if there is a Panzer which can kill 3 recruits and I choose Duck and run I need to pay 2 glory point or 6 glory points(2 for each recruit)?
@ZillaBlitz Жыл бұрын
That's a good question. I'd suggest asking it on the Board Game Geek Questions Forum for the game. That way more people will see it. :)

It is good to know that on the whole the world has gotten more peaceful as time has progressed. The last decade has some disturbing trends the other way, but on the whole we live in significantly more peaceful times than in other points in history.
