Definitely stings my eyes couldn't disagree more. The alcohol content in this product is SECOND on the list, which I didn't realize until after having bought it, tried it on my face and wondered why it was so irritating and stinging, and checked the ingredients list to be shocked to discover it to be so high up on the list!!!!!!

@@BY-px1dr It’s probably more likely that other ingredients in the formula are irritating your skin rather than the alcohol to be honest, unless you have a compromised skin barrier, alcohol shouldn’t cause irritation for the vast majority of people. I find that it stays put surprisingly well, it really doesn’t migrate into the eyes & sting them, never seen a sunscreen quite like this, it’s pretty darn impressive, the technology behind this sunscreen is very innovative, but obviously it’s not for everyone 😜 maybe it stung your eyes because you are sensitive to one or more of the ingredients in the product, but honestly alcohol in most cases and for most people is a pretty harmless ingredient

@@BY-px1dr i have a face moisturiser that i use around my eyes, alcohol is the third ingredient, I can’t even feel if it nor smell it, glycerin is the second ingredient, it’s pretty gentle around my eyes and has fragrance

@@BY-px1dr There are sooo many different ways for processing alchocol in skin care products, thus many different types of alchocol in them. My eyes literally react to a summer breeze. That's how sensitive they are. This is, so far, the only spf my eyes tolerate

Love this sunscreen! Extremely high UVA protection and no stinging of the eyes. I’m on accutane right now, so my skin is very dry/sensitivity prone, but the alcohol in this doesn’t irritate or dry my skin out. Definitely a holy grail for a sunscreen junkie like me haha.

Sarah I figured out the percentages of the UV filters in the Shaka fluid! Here they are! 2% Mexoryl XL 4.5% Uvinul T150 4% Tinosorb S Lite Aqua 3.5% Avobenzone 0.5% Mexoryl SX 5% Octisalate So I actually put all of these numbers into BASF sunscreen simulator and the PPD I got was 12.3! Wheras the actual PPD of the finished final product is 46, this just shows you how important the base formula of a sunscreen is and how dramatically it can boost the protection of the UV filters

Sarah! I just tried the phloretin CF today and it did not bother my skin! No stinging today except very slight stinging that went away quickly in the corners of my nose where the nostrils are cause of broken skin but other than that it was fine! It doesn't dry out my skin but it does have that typical slight tingling sensation you get from a vitamin c serum when you're not used to it. It's not super matte but it's not shiny either, it definitely doesn't bother me despite having oily skin, and I actually over applied it and used way more than what I need, it's just the slightest bit sticky, I don't think you will find it sticky though and the stickiness dissipates fairly quickly. It smells more like corn water rather than hot dog water 😆 but it still has that metallic ascorbic acid smell... I can't really smell the alcohol but it helps lighten the formula I guess and helps it dry faster. So far I'm liking it, I thought for sure the alcohol will irritate my skin but it didn't, I think you will love it if you tired it cause it doesn't dry out the skin, still too early to judge it like I said but my opinions today are better than yesterday! I think I might even repurchase it but it's far too early to decide

It really is sweat resistant, especially since when I was testing this out it has been in the 80's and 90's pretty much since May. Takes a great washing to remove, but that's a good thing. I've found I like using it on the backs of my hands, too.

I tested this on my hands in store but decided to go with the hydrating one. In hindsight that was a bad decision because the hydrating one can leave yellowish clumps on the skin. But I found this one surprisingly shiny and sticky on my hand for the high alcohol content. But the PPD rating is super high. It would be great for spending all day outside. I don't spend much time outside so a PPD in the 20s is fine for me. It is kind of disappointing that the PA rating only goes to ++++ when 16 is such a low number when most products are around 20+ and some like this LRP are 46

I clicked this video because I have this sunscreen and I wanted to know your thoughts on it. Going here thinking “I can’t use this several days because of the alcohol content”...and then slowly getting back the vivid memory of “wishing the day was already over so that I can wash my skin and put the most moisturizing cream on my face to soothe this never ending itch”. That’s my review of the product. I have relatively normal skin and I avoid fragrance and alcohol in my skincare. I bought this because of the alluring ppd 46 so that I would have a heavy duty sunscreen option when the purito centella green level unscented isn’t enough. Let’s just say I think it’s just easier to stay away from the excess sun that use this LRP shaka fluid frequently! Why did LRP do this? Did they have a left over liquor stash and they needed to dump it somewhere?! I’d rather shine to the moon and back than use this alcohol heavy product.

I received my sunscreen order yesterday from a French pharmacy. It contains three different LRP sunscreens. One contains a pretty high amount of alcohol and the other two are alcohol free. To be more precise I purchased Anthelios Ultra Protection Fragrance Free Sunscreen SPF 50+ , Anthelios anti-shine face gel-cream SPF50 + and Anthelios anti-imperfections Sunscreen gel-cream SPF 50+ which I haven’t used yet. Now each one of them has a different Ppd and the one with the highest pdd number is the Anthelios Ultra Protection Fragrance Free Sunscreen SPF 50+ and it’s the one with alcohol content. To my surprise I found that the latter is more emollient and easier to spread. It felt soothing even around my eyes. I hadn’t experience any burning sensation while wearing it. On the contrary the second one (Anthelios anti-shine face gel-cream SPF50 + ) which alcohol free was a bit chalky and hard to spread. It sucked the moisture out of my skin and it also stung my skin a little bit. I still need to try one more and that is the Anthelios anti-imperfections Sunscreen gel-cream SPF 50+. I set a high expectation for this one and hopefully it wont disappoint me. Ps: Many scientific researches and studies showed that alcohol can damage the skin collagen production. However, this can occur only if alcohol applied to skin is in a big and concentrated amount. Also, another study showed when a small amount is applied to the skin it immediately evaporates therefore a certain amount of alcohol in a skin care won’t hurt especially if it’s added carefully and with the right allowed amount.

I'm loving that LRP is creating fragrance free versions of their sunscreens- that was my biggest problem was that their sunscreens were so scented they gave me a headache. I'd much rather have alcohol and no fragrance in it if I had to choose. You'll have to keep me posted how you end up liking each of them!

Today I did my skincare routine but with one more step differently . First I applied my vitamin c serum then I moisturized my skin using my regular moisturizer. After that I applied LRP Anthelios anti-shine face gel-cream SPF50 +. (Fragrance and alcohol free) Pros: The sunscreen glided more easily. (This sunscreen will absolutely work fantastically for people with oily to very oily skin) My skin felt more supple and comfortable. No white cast (only a healthy glow) My skin looked pore-less and smooth. No peelings (I applied several layers and there was zero peeling) Con: The slight burning sensation but this time below my cheek. (I think this was because I over done retinol) I’ll keep you posted and next time I’ll use the Anthelios anti-imperfections Sunscreen gel-cream SPF 50+

Update: As I promised this is an update for my new LRP sunscreens purchase and use. Today I tried the Anthelios anti-imperfections Sunscreen gel-cream SPF 50+ (alcohol and fragrance free). As the last time I applied my vitamin c serum and then my regular moisturizer. After that I applied the Anthelios anti-imperfections Sunscreen gel-cream SPF 50+. Frankly, both Anthelios anti-imperfections and Anthelios anti-shine face gel-cream SPF50 are almost the same. The only difference between them is the first one contains niacinamid and salicylic acid. It’s designed especially for people who suffer from acne and large pores. Both of them are geared toward combination to oily skin. Both of them are fragrance and alcohol free so they’re perfect for people with sensitive skin. Update: Today I only applied lrp anti shine sunscreen to my skin. It worked very well. I think my skin became reactive because I over did retinol and vitamin c serum so I cut off these two actives for a while and my skin started to act normally again. I have a sensitive combination skin and sometimes dehydrated, therefore it’s not the sunscreen fault. I have to mention again the one with alcohol is super gentle, hydrating and calming. It’s feels like applying PC calm serum to my skin. I would use it even if my skin in its worst condition without any worry.

Have to disagree (this is regarding the shaka fluid fragrance free version). Although fragrance free, the alcohol content in this one is so high up the list that even with a thick moisturizer underneath I can feel the alcohol strip through the moisturizer. Worst part is it DOES sting my eyes and I'm almost certain its because of the high alcohol content in this sunscreen. Going to make sure not to buy sunscreens in the future with alcohol content that are second or third in the ingredients list that high up!!!!

I love this fresh white look (looks actually quite Nordic) The idea behind the Beanie babies is cool, please let me know which one is me ;) This La Roche Posay Shaka Fluid is an amazing sunscreen, I always use it if I spend a lot of time outside. Definitely not for everyday use, because of the alcohol. I am currently testing two other sunscreens from La Roche Posay: Anti Shine Spf50+ and Anti Pigmentation spf50+, they have less alcohol and have great protection.

Thank you- still a bit more to go, but almost done with the new studio! So if I'm outside for the day, then I definitely re-apply. Or if I go in the water I'll reapply right after I get out. If I'm spending most of the day inside and outside less than 90 minutes I don't reapply my sunscreen. When I reapply I just use it right over everything I'm already wearing. A good sunscreen like this one won't cause too much pilling when you apply it over your makeup and foundation. I do love the Sunscreen Powders (like Tarte, Colorscience, and Derma E) because you can just apply it like you would a finishing powder, and it also takes away any shine, you just need to make sure to apply it liberally. I think I'm going to do a video next time I'm outside all day and how I reapply it and how it looks with each re-application.

Hi, I have the tinted vesion, it leaves a light colour, like a very soft beige but you notice that you are wearing a tinted spf. I like it but in me i get little balls of product, especialy in my neck and temples, but I like it, it has a smell but is not overpowering.

Been considering converting to these types of European/Asian chemical sunscreens (not the ones we have in the US) over mineral because they seem to have much higher protection and no white cast which is IDEAL...and I’ve actually found some zinc sunscreens to be really drying which ... what the heck? I have super sensitive skin and can’t find anything that works very well and also provides enough protection. Not to mention doesn’t break the bank. It either burns...is too drying or is too greasy. Or the tint is way to dark. Or a major white cast. Or all of the above UGH. Like the Elta MD sunscreens for example DRIED ME OUT. Was very disappointed. This one seems promising? I do worry about the alcohol in this and ... still weary of « chemical » sunscreens generally but willing to try whatever works for my skin! This one is a contender. Just wish I didn’t have to wait soooo long to get a shipment from over seas for these...😫 Can’t there be an affordable sunscreen with all the things? 😂 Thanks for reviewing! ❤️

I really enjoy this sunscreen. On days I know I'm going to be outside a fair amount I either turn to this one or The Bioderma Cicabio SPF because both brands and products have excellent UVA protection. It's been a while since I last used the Skinceuticals Matte SPF, but I remember liking it, it was a little thick, but it did set to a nice matte finish. Although the LRP Shaka is truly invisibile, and doesn't look like you have anything on. The Skinceuticals was nice, did have a bit of a less invisilbe finish, but still matte. I think you'll probably get better protection from LRP though, especially the UVA protection.

Actually I have a question for you . I use this product and of course love it but I also want some coverage and we all know that shaka fluid tinted version is soo pink and impossible to wear. I tried to use some foundations and bioderma nude touch but they all look cakey after all. So I want to use this colorless version of shaka fluid and wear water resistant powder on ( like maybelline superstay 24h powder). Do you think my face will look natural and not cakey this way ?

This is my fav sunscreen, it leaves no white cast on my brown skin and doesnt stinge in my eyes. My only concern is that it might be toxic on the long run. I dont use many cosmetic products, cause I try to be as low tox as possible and reduce plastic

Its the high alcohol content (second kn the ingredients list). I would not use it on the face. Tried it and felt stinging sensation around my eyes even with a thick moisturizer layered underneath.

The product is not called la roche lossy Shaka, Shaka just means “shake well” … it says the same on the invisible spray too.. so the invisible spray can also be called “Shaka”? No

Ive been using this sunscreen for about a month, at first it was perfect then it started to slightly sting on my skin.. its pretty weird but ive tried so many sunscreens and this was the only one that worked just for it to sting ah

I know what you mean- if I use this for several days in a row my skin with sting a bit. It usually stops if I take a few days off and switch to something else- then I can use it again for a few more days. I think it is probably from the alcohol in it- some people can use this without any issues but I think sensitive skin can have this issue.

@@Imawatches Definitely the super high alcohol content. I layered a thick moisturizer underneath and even that I could feel the alcohol strip right through it and irritate my skin AND sting my eyes. Surprised this product had so many rave reviews. Definitely would not repurchase and this will probably end up on my arms instead if at that. Too harsh on the face.

@@BY-px1dr yes i figured it out back then :( it also broke me out badly and sensitized my skin!! Its not cosmetically elegant and it really is awful jsjdjd im back to my cosrx aloe sun cream for daily use and oh is it nice and moisturizing!!!

Has the sunscreen been discontinued? I no longer see it on the La Roche Posay UK site. It was there before. They have a tinted version and an SPF 30 version, but I don't see the SPF 50 untinted version anymore.

I do wish there were more alcohol free sunscreens- some people like alcohol in their sunscreens but it can be a nightmare for people with sensitive skin or conditions such as rosacea. Have you been able to find one that works better for you?

I believe it will probably be in stores there- it's been a long time since I've been to Spain but they do have some really nice sunscreens- Heliocare, ISDIN, Frezyderm should all be available there- I would go check out the local pharamaceutical/ drug stores.

I've found for exercising Anessa is great brand to check out, especially if you exercise outside frequently. Their technology makes the sunscreen work better when it gets wet from water or sweat.

This sunscreen sets to a really nice matte finish, and it doesn't get greasy during the day. It does mattify skin just a bit. If you plan to use foundation over it I'd try and go with a lightweight foundation. I think if you do that you'll be very happy with this sunscreen. I've used it during workouts, walking/running when it has been right around 90 (F)degrees and it wears very nicely.

I don't think it's ideal for oily skin, it looks ok if you don't over apply it but if you do over apply it you will look shiny and oily believe me lol I have very oily skin, I know what this looks like, I always over apply my sunscreen to make sure I get good even protection, I never under apply just to be safe, it's not terrible but doesn't leave a true matte finish, I think it looks shiny unless you can apply it perfectly in a way that doesn't compromise protection, but without over application. If you don't apply it evenly you will get patchy/streaky protection

@@freedomlife5968 i have oily skin, and it's definitely shiny, you never want to apply little sunscreen, so i personally never have noticed a mattifying effect, actually i found that my skin looks oiler as time goes by. Plus they have a color/tinted version, and it's sooo oragen, unless you are a prototype 4 to 6, i wouldn't choose that one.

I found I can use it about five days in a row without issues (as long as I use hydrating serums before the sunscreen) then I liked to take two days off to use a good hydrating mineral sunscreen just to prevent dryness. If you have oilier skin you can probably use it daily without issues.

I think every woman’s ultimate goal is to use skincare until she no longer needs to wear any makeup beyond just eye makeup like eyeliner or mascara, I actually think you’re getting pretty close to realizing that goal! Your skin tonw is becoming more and more even. To be honest, I think it’s best to spare the skin from makeup, I think regular use of makeup is damaging in the long term, If you can ditch foundation I recommend that you do unless you use it for testing purposes to see how well products sit underneath makeup particularly sunscreens. Concealer should be ditched too unless you have super dark under eye circles, I think women should aim to look as natural as possible because most people find natural more attractive, definitely more attractive than a cakey face in my opinion at least, I’d never want to look so cakey and unnatural from excess makeup lol plus some makeup can break some people out, but if you really need it to cover up your acne or imperfections i say go for it! As someone with super acne prone skin, I understand. Sadly makeup free face can’t be achieved by all women, what skincare can do is always limited
