He has been in the MLB for 6 years now, so he obviously can understand enough English to casually chat with teammates and coaches. But when it comes to answering serious questions from the media, he should use an interpreter. There's a massive difference between understanding what's been said/asked, and being able to answer professionally and politely in a foreign language.

Maybe like the guys said, let’s see how it goes…. They all feel uncomfortable and shit to make the new guy feel weird and they already know how humble he is, doesn’t need to be weird just let sports happen naturally, then the real hits and its actually natural. Sports don’t have to be fake at all and yet the riggedness feels realer every year, I seriously don’t want to feel that way but it’s hard to get over strangeness every year that tends to blow everything in all sports. Absolutely love this interview and I’m a devoted OHTANI-SAN fan and follower. First and foremost, I’ve always believed that OHTANI-SAN’s club house, teammate, and leadership value is triple whatever he’s worth on the field. It was never more evident in the Tokyo Olympics and 2023 World Baseball Classic. There is no one like him. Also, his personal and professional qualities and character are a reflection of and insight to Japan culture and customs that are engrained in every facet of society. OHTANI-SAN embodies the best of Nippon. I would absolutely love to see the Dodgers build a Japanese all star team and include Nippon Processional Baseball coaches to their staff and organization. Last, I can say I’m forever blessed in having lived and worked in Japan for 9 years and I know in my heart and mind that the U.S. has so much that it can learn and emulate from OHTANI-SAN, Japanese baseball from the youth leagues to the Nippon Professional Baseball league, and Japanese society and culture. In fact I’d go so far as to say that emulating Japan would transform and revolutionize many facets of the U.S. from youth sports, professional sports, and to education, society, business, and politics. Thank you for conducting and sharing this wonderful interview, go Dodgers, and 日本が大好きです 🙏❤️🇯🇵🎌
