Sometimes you american do things very well. I am overwhelm by the care yoy took to preserve the memory of Sieur de Lasalle who had much difficulties when he was attacked by the pirats and later recovered the hardware and forged architectures ornements to build his fort Louis. He stopped by Montreal on his return from Europe and the catholic Jesuite gave him a land to take care but he later sold it to return to exploring Mississipi. GREAT MAN! Bravo à nos découvreurs.

I am a descendant of Robert Talon, one of the children adopted by the Karankawa after they killed his mother and the remaining colonists around Christmas 1687. The Spanish traded horses and recovered the Talon children but held them in Mexico City as they knew too much. Later they were discovered on a Spanish vessel by the French navy and returned to France, and eventually made their way to Louisiana. This video means so much to me !

What an absolute gem of a documentary this is! Utterly fascinating, compelling, and intriguing, the huge effort that these great people went to in order to completely learn from this wreck is unequalled! To have built such a huge cofferdam out in those waters and in effect transformed a historical marine salvage operation in murky, muddy water into a dry land based excavation is quite simply remarkable! Likewise, the techniques for X-Ray imaging, then injecting resin into coral encrusted objects which had eroded completely away and once the resin had set, removing the coral to reveal the exact reproduction of whichever item was originally entombed in coral was simply staggering! This expedition is remarkable for its achievements and for the historical knowledge that had been revealed from its endeavours.

lisa speeglr, 20+ years later, I wonder if they do it the same way? My guess is the only major difference would be detailed 3-D scanning of the site before building the coffer damn. Also, I think they would have expanded the search site around the wreck. Lastly, depending on how good the DNA sample was/is, they could have determined things like eye & hair color of the deceased.

This is the best documentary I think I’ve ever seen! The way they built that damn so they could excavate the bottom of the ocean is just fascinating!

I had an amazing time working on this Documentary, thanks to Alan Govenar and Robert Tullier for the opportunity. Watching the coffer dam being built and drained and seeing the recovery of artifacts from the wreck were all experiences I will never forget. I also will never forget the swarms of Mosquitos that enveloped us while we tried to work.

No embarrassment at all actually. Without those political figures, we would not have received the necessary funding to conduct the excavation. I may not agree with their political ideology but we appreciated their support of our efforts and by listing their names at the very end, we were just saying so...

The actual ship is on permanent display at the Bullock Texas State History museum on the UT campus in Austin Texas. If you don’t want to make the trip several books and updated documentaries are available for perches from their website I highly recommend “From a Watery Grave” by James E. Bruseth and Toni S. Turner.

I lived in Port Lavaca Texas when they were doing this recovery. I took my family to the site on my boat. It was amazing to watch the technology of the coffer damn. I was amazed at what I saw!!!! I believe the wreck was found along the border of the Lavaca bay just inside the Matagorda bay!! There's an old fort close to La Salle Texas. That part of the the coast is rich in history.
@ammocache68799 ай бұрын
My family is from Matagorda bay. Their is another wreck believed to be in Pass Cavalos (sp?) I think your are referring to. I believe it was found midway across West Matagorda bay. I remember fishing there many times passing it headed to Greens Bayou.

Very amateurish. No breathless deadlines. No pending storms. No hours or minutes to complete a project and finish just in time to prevent a major disaster. No flashbacks and repetitions for half the film. No fancy camera actions, movements, zooms, etc., enough to trigger an epileptic fit. Therefore, it is very refreshing, informative, easy to watch and will generate tons of hate mail.
