My main hiking is in the Lyngen Alps ( Norway). Rock, boulder ,and perma-ice. For me, the boots excelled in that terrain. Sticky grip. Warm enough with double socks. Thin silk/ thicker wool. Toes will get a little chilled after many hours. Cold damp morning boots are difficult to put on. Usual problem with most alpine boots. If you have wide feet, choose a different brand. My feet flatten out after about six hours or so . The boots have no sidewall give, and don't really ever give after a year of use. I went over to Scarpa. Otherwise, these are a great quality tool. I wear the Evo and it is because I have had frost bite a few times and have no fingerprints at all anymore. I can no longer retie my shoes when its like -20 F. I live in Alaska, I am 61 with bad hips but I like to climb mountains. They are nice, stiff and surprisingly light. And comfortable. They are actually worth a couple hundred more dollars. BTW, Seattle is Florida to Alaskans. You do not want to take off gloves to retie boots. I love the Boa. As you get colder your feet shrink. But you do not want boots too snug or say bye to your toes.
